I think Senator Blumenthal should take a nice long vacation in Vietnam, where he lied about his service, so he can at least say he was there

Trump talking about how Senator Blumenthal should take a "nice long vacation" sounds a lot like a mafia threat. This is ridiculous.

I thought the same, Dr. Gu. This is beyond anything I ever imagined coming from him, and I had such low expectations...

Ive posted on Blumenthal before on this issue. However, just for peoples knowledge, Blumenthal was in the Marine reserves during the Vietnam era and never went to Vietnam. Hes been in public service for almost his entire adult life Connecticut state rep and senator, state attorney general, US senator, etc. He has given hundreds, if not thousands, of speeches to various veterans groups across the state over the last 30-40 years. In every speech except one or two, he will always say that he did not serve in Vietnam as he was in the reserves. One or two times he forgot that qualifier about not serving in Vietnam and Linda McMahon brought those few lapses up as a campaign issue when she ran against Blumenthal for Senate.
The same Linda McMahon from the WWE that spent $110 million of her own money to lose senate races to both Chris Murphy and Blumenthal by over 10 points each time and is now Trumps head of the SBA.

(70,186 posts)Is there any truth to it? I do not care but he sure gets hit on all over twitter every time it comes up. Trump is a vile hypocrite for bringing it up, given all his deceptions and lies.
That said, I am not faulting Sen. Blumenthal for these comments. He is a fine Senator IMHO.

......Vietnam legacy
Both Blumenthal and Trump avoided serving in Vietnam, but while Trump never claimed to have been there, Blumenthal did.
In 2010, the New York Times reported that at a 2008 ceremony for veterans and senior citizens, Blumenthal said, "We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam." In 2003, Blumenthal spoke at a rally supporting troops overseas. "When we returned, we saw nothing like this," he said, a comparison with soldiers who came back from Vietnam.
Blumenthal told the New York Times he had "misspoken" about his Vietnam record. In reality, between 1965 and 1970, he received at least five deferments for military service. In 1970, he obtained a slot in the Marine Reserves and was stationed in America.
As weve reported before, Trump benefited from four student deferments in college and one medical deferment (Trump later said that was for bone spurs in his heels), before being classified 4-F, unfit to serve. Trump played baseball, tennis and squash during his college years. He once said attending a private military-style boarding school gave him "more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military."

(56,828 posts)in decades of public service and likely at least hundreds of speeches to Veterans' Groups. Certainly better than Trump or George W Bush in terms of not misspeaking

(63,221 posts)First of all, he is the last person that should be criticizing ANYONE about their military service since this sniveling coward had 5 deferments due to a made up ailment.
Secondly, what normal adult pulls this kind of childish, ridiculous bullshit? It is so juvenile, it's beyond embarrassing!
