I hate how Republicans have rigged our Democracy

Republicans, quite simply, did a very good job in drawing the congressional lines in states where they controlled the entire process after the 2010 census. Large populations of Democrats are, as Wasserman notes, packed into urban districts while Republican voters are more spread out among suburban and rural seats.

We have broken off into different groups, and to make things worse, some want a "purity test" for candidates. We used to be a Party that was all-inclusive.

It's always amazed me how well the power brokers do at keeping the two party system relatively stably. That's a lot of people to cram into two boxes.

The structure of the Senate give outsized power to rural areas and the EC can serve as gerrymandering on a national scale. The odds are against us before we even start.
