David Brat, who defeated Eric Cantor, has said he will not appear at a townhall meeting.
"It is clear these individuals are more interested in scoring political points with TV cameras running than in having a constructive dialogue about issues," Brat said in an email. "I will not spend 90 minutes being shouted at by individuals who have already demonstrated they have no interest in a productive exchange of ideas."
"Those would be individuals who also happen to be something called "constituents," who Brat is supposed to be representing. But Brat is too much of a snowflake to face people who disagree with him."

(10,749 posts)Maybe Democratic contenders, or nearby Democratic congresspeople, could run the townhall meeting in place of any cowardly republicans?

(18,613 posts)If Brat won't come to the town hall meeting, hold one anyway. Get two or three local Democrats there to talk up the Democratic platform and agenda, and contrast it with whatever Brat's doing. Maybe invite some heavy hitter from Richmond or DC. Get the local media there and talk to anyone with a notebook or microphone, and get the Democratic side of things in the local newspaper without the Fox filter. Buck up and encourage local Democrats who may feel like they're waging a lonely battle in hostile territory.
