BuzzFeed:Dictatorial. Arrogant. Pompous. Superficial. Tone-deaf. Tone-dead. Out of line. Insulting absolutely insulting.
These are the words that Nina Turner, president of the group founded by Bernie Sanders to further his "political revolution," used in an interview to describe the Democratic National Committee. The grievances converge around a recent trip to deliver petitions to the partys headquarters in Washington, where Turner and other progressives were greeted by barricades, security guards, and an offering of donuts and water that she saw as an empty gesture, indicative of an institution that isn't smart enough, humble enough, to say lets take a step back and really listen to the people," that instead is far too willing to disregard people, to dismiss, belittle, and shun, to push them to the side all of which has left Turner, the newly appointed head of Our Revolution, with the view that, as she puts it, "the establishment side of the Democratic Party have shown themselves to be dictators."
In the months since last years long and fraught Democratic primary, Sanders and key allies like Rep. Keith Ellison have worked to address tensions between the partys establishment and grassroots powers, carving out new partnerships with the DNC and Senate leaders.
But at Our Revolution, Turner is taking on those same institutional forces, rallying supporters against the establishment, and stirring up the old fights of 2016 a newly aggressive posture toward the Democratic Party that puts Our Revolution visibly out of step with its own figurehead.

In 2015, the Ohio Democratic Party Chair arranged a private lunch with me, my wife and Nina. Everyone thought she had a huge future in the Party. Today, not so much...

Really though. Complain about security procedures meant to get Democratic staffers and leaders safe after a campaign of harassment from both the left and the right and free food for your organization. Our Revolution, under Nina Turner, is just going to turn into another arm of the opposition. If this is her outlook now, what do people think is going to happen when candidates endorsed in primaries by Turner/Our Revolution are not chosen by the voters to represent them?

(25,367 posts)4. This is nutty. "They tried to seduce us with donuts and water."
What's wrong with donuts and water? You bring 60 people and want a meal? That would be expensive. I thought we were supposed to get money out of politics. Or is it the carbs? Because there was no gluten-free alternative? Did she think it was a bribe? I want to know what the deal is with the donut and water outrage.
