My mother bought only margarine. As soon as I got away from her, I discovered real butter and never looked back. I had never learned the little trick, though.

Land O' Lakes was an expensive exotic import during my California childhood, so I knew nothing about it either.

My wife made my first one and was laughing so hard she was crying while I played with it, totally gobsmacked. The girl that taught my wife the secret said her mother knew the commercial artist, and that it was an inside joke in the advertising industry.
