We may be in the middle of the slimiest coup in history.

The republicans may intend to delay the 2020 presidential election based on what can only be described as false flag information. They think it is highly likely that they cannot win in 2020 so they plan to "delay" the election until they can establish voter identity, which will only be satisfied when they can eliminate all democratic voters.

They are alleging that the 3 to 4 million votes trump lost by in the popular vote are illegal and were made by unqualified voters. That's a sham and a lie of course. But they think they can convince enough of their congressional representatives to participate in this coup based on that lie.

The very same people who colluded with Russia to steal this last election are now going to allege voter fraud as a reason to maintain their control over this nation. We are about to become a tinpot dictatorship.

Still think your vote doesn't matter? Still think Hillary is as bad as Trump?

The republicans know that the voter demographics are are headed in the wrong direction for them. This is their war against being ousted and marginalized as a political entity. They would see the nation destroyed before they will allow that to happen.

This may well lead to the second American revolution if allowed to come to fruition.

1. Sorry... that's as wrong as thinking that the last election can be undone absent impeachment

There is no mechanism for delaying an election like that.

This sort of scare-mongering is silly.

Moreover, even if (and even this "for the sake of argument" proposition is absurd) there was some way the federal government could "delay" the 2020 Presidential election[s] -- there are actually 51 separate such elections, conducted at the state level -- such a "delay" would not result in Trump continuing as President. Per the U.S. Constitution, Trump's term would end at noon on January 20, 2021, even if no successor had been elected.

That is, absent a constitutional amendment, which won't happen, there is no lawful mechanism by which Trump could "continue in office."

Again, this is all silly.

The electoral college failed the American people, so maybe we shouldn't be putting blind faith in these institutions.

Of course there is a real mechanism for removing Trump from office before the end of his term. Maybe it will be used, maybe it won't, but it does exist.

And - I don't believe Trump will live that long.

This is not a 'thing happening' now - it was poll of a handful of Trump's diehards.

Just because a polling company asked a hypothetical, totally unrealistic question, doesn't mean it's an initiative actually being pursued by anyone.

Election systems are the law. Changing them is infinitely more difficult.

Trump is not Hugo Chavez or Nicolas Maduro and he can't just give he military some food and expect them to go around shooting Americans while he implements change.

Given how seriously Senate Republicans seem to be taking the Russian interference investigation, I'm not inclined to believe they'd support wholesale changes to our Constitution for Donald Trump, whom most of them can't stand anyway.

Even if they did, he'd need a bunch of Dems to join the effort, and I don't think thats very likely.

It's their favorite thing. They can't stop making those claims every time something goes against their narrative.

election. Speculative fun for everyone. If we jump the gun people might get weary of this too soon.

That being said

Of course it will be exactly the same as how the Bush and Obama administrations handled canceling the election. Spread some powerful lies. Declare a national emergency, impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus, station military units around the country, then suspend the election.

I remember DU and the speculation in 2004, 2008, 2012. may people sure were speculating up a storm. I was afraid we'd hurt ourselves.
