Translation of the statement (re: N.K.): "The military leaders and diplomats are calm.'

From what I am hearing from analysts on the news shows today is basically this: "The diplomats from the United States and other countries as well as the Pentagon and military are handling the situation and ignoring the ignorant statements from Trump, who by the way everyone thinks is an idiot."

I think that sums up the situation.

were intended mainly for the domestic consumption of their respective populations. All of North Korea is Kim's "base" because they have no choice in the matter, and Trump's base of low-information knuckledraggers love all that tough talk. But while it's not at all helpful for Trump to be ranting like a skinhead street thug or a pro wrestler, I think the smart people - that is, the career foreign service folks - understand that the important talk is going on behind the scenes.
