This whole 'sins of the father' mindset where relatives suddenly become free targets for attack is really distasteful. We don't know her, or her life or experiences, and just assuming she's like him is really unpleasant.

I understand the anger, but I think she should not be judged on a gut reaction upon just learning what her son had done. Who knows what a person might say in shock.

Let's give it some time, learn more about the son, and then there will be plenty of time to assign blame if blame is due.
