I'm going to see it next Thursday!

Just read a terrific new book "The Lady in Gold" about Adele. It is quite fascinating.

The family history, and the history of what happened to the paintings in WWII, is fascinating.

The government of Austria had the effing nerve to claim national patrimony over her portrait to keep it at the Belvedere in Vienna. Adele's family suffered greatly in the Holocaust but survivors claimed the work and they won their case. The claim's basis in U.S. law was tested in the US Supreme Court, but not the ownership. It was a great victory.

Altho the book goes a bit far in the depth of its cast of characters, it was a very satisfying read overall. It helps to sketch out a family/relationship tree at the beginning to keep all the people straight.

Thanks for reminding me of the story. The family did finally have a great victory, as they deserved.

course they belonged to them. Adele was sold to Ron Lauder for $135 million. He has loaned it to the Neue Galerie (don't know if it is a semi permanent deal, tho).

I couldn't believe how crowded it was there! Hope you and yours are fine!

P.S. is the landscape you showed "poppy field"?
