Yesterday Virginia State Police announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with Jason Kessler’s Unite the Right (UTR) rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Among them was James M. O’Brien of Gainesville, Florida. O’Brien was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed handgun.

O’Brien’s arrest roughly coincided with a rush on a Charlottesville parking garage by local SWAT units after members of the Neo-Confederate Florida League of the South (FL LOS) were filmed viciously beating a black man, who attempted to run away, fell, and was savaged once again. Also visible in the video was at least one man carrying a shield with a Vanguard America logo, much like the one carried by James Alex Fields, who allegedly drove his car through a group of counter protestors killing one.

The video of the beating occurs about 26 seconds into the CNN clip below. ....

O’Brien is friends on Facebook with several known League of the South members, including Florida state chairman Michael Tubbs, another veteran who went on to lead the Florida League of the South after he was released from prison for his role in a plot to bomb Jewish and black-owned businesses in Jacksonville, Florida.

Kyle Quinn, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas, was wrongly identified on social media as a participant in a white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Va.

In the aftermath of the white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Va., many civil rights activists took to Twitter and shared photos of people who allegedly were at the march. The idea was to identify who they were and shame them. But identifying someone from a photo can be tricky — and the activists managed to make at least one mistake.

It was Saturday and Kyle Quinn and his wife were having a quiet afternoon at home: "I was sitting on the on the couch with my wife; I think we were watching Planet Earth II" — a nature documentary show — "and I got a phone call."

It was from the university relations office at the University of Arkansas, where Quinn works as a professor of biomedical engineering.

"They wanted to confirm where I was," he says. And then it got stranger. "They asked whether I'd heard about what was going on in Charlottesville. I told them I was vaguely familiar."

The school official told Quinn his weekend was "about to get a lot worse."

A counterprotester at the white supremacist march had posted a picture of a man with a beard and light brown hair, the same color as Quinn's, the school official said. The man was wearing a T-shirt that said "Arkansas Engineering." The official said someone on social media put Quinn's name to the picture. ................

Video has surfaced from the Charlottesville rally/riot that shows a white supremacist asshole pulling out a pistol and saying “Hey n*****.” Then, pointing his pistol directly forward, he tries to shoot that pistol at someone. But his safety is on. After he takes the safety off, he thinks better and points the pistol toward the ground and shoots. The New York Times has the video care of the Virginia ACLU, and doesn’t quite report exactly what happened—which is peculiar.

To make his escape, a video recording shows, the armed protester strolled past a line of about a dozen state police troopers who were safely positioned about 10 feet away behind two metal barricades. None of them budged.

“We all heard it and ran — I know damn well they heard it,” said Rosia Parker, a community activist in Charlottesville. “They never moved.”

Police had a suspect in the shooting in custody on Saturday morning, according to an official familiar with the investigation, who requested anonymity ................

A 52-year-old Baltimore man, one of three more people charged in the Aug. 12 white nationalist rally in Virginia, was arrested Saturday and is being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center.

The man, identified as Richard Wilson Preston, was charged by Charlottesville, Va., police with discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. Charlottesville Police said in a news release that Preston fired a gun in the 100 block of West Market Street.

Court records list his address in the 5800 block of Cedonia Ave. in the Northeast Baltimore neighborhood of Cedmont. Numerous news reports refer to Preston as imperial wizard of Maryland’s Ku Klux Klan chapter.

He was apparently picked up Saturday on a fugitive warrant issued in Virginia. .............
