Illinois Senate passes measure calling for neo-Nazis to be classified as terror groups
The Illinois Senate on Sunday approved a resolution calling for police to categorize neo-Nazi groups as terrorist organizations, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The measure came as a response to Saturday's violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., where a car was driven into a group of counter-protesters, killing one and injuring more than a dozen.
“It is vital that we stand in total opposition to the hatred, bigotry and violence displayed by the white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups in Charlottesville this past weekend,” said Illinois Sen. Don Harmon (D), who sponsored the measure.
