Let's Call Charlottesville what it was-a putsch.

The Right defied the police. They incited chaos and sought to cause violent confrontation. They were found to have caches of weapons around the city.

It was an attempt to overthrow democracy and establish an racial-and-ethnic supremacist regime in its place.

And it won't be the last try.

This was more of an idiot convention than an organized insurrection

...drunk on the excitement of the moment, seeing themselves as heroes in an action movie.

They were protesting the planned removal of statues of people they hadn't even Googled. While they may dream of national conquest, I don't think that they'd planned anything more than tiki torches and Heil-Drumpfs.

So there was planning of a very dangerous nature.

11. That's part of their action-movie mystique.

I don't reject the idea that some very dangerous planning went on, just the idea that it was protest-wide. The thing is, that's how it always starts, with a few unscrupulous leaders taking advantage of a bunch of dimwits.

If this neo-Nazi movement grows unchecked, we will see better-coordinated attacks and attempts to lure counter-protestors into attacking. Charlottesville was a bunch of amateurs.

12. Would it be wonderfully ironic if society realized they had to control guns because of these rats?

OK. Not all guns, but at least get some resonable control. I did not say eliminate.

and put him in jail where he can write "My Struggle" (to fit into khaki pants).

And then, when he is 80 or so... he can lead the khakipants brigades to victory... and then kill off his rivals leading the alt-right like Steve Bannon in what will be known as "the night of the long putters".

8. The problem wasn't that Hitler was arrested, it was that he was released.

It's not as though Hitler only "wrote" the book(actually, he plagiarized most of it from anti-Semitic tracts whose publication was subsidized by Henry Ford) because he was doing time.

Also, I'm not comparing Trump to Hitler in this scenario-Trump is too selfish and cynical to established a Reich. The closer analog would be Richard Spencer. And Spencer's young-he'll be around for decades.

The most important thing is to take this seriously. Most folks in Munich thought Hitler and his posse were a joke in '23.

9. History is not repeating itself directly

Trump is already in power... and is a lot older than Hitler.

Yes, there are echoes of the past here. We should take it seriously.

My poor attempt at humor was only trying to make fun of Trump and his "khakipants" Nazis. Of course, they have already killed one person and probably maimed many more, so maybe the time of making fun of them is over.
