I am so proud of the counter-protestors in Charlottesville, VA.

All ages, genders, races. (Well, they were mainly young?) How proud I am as an American that these people showed up to counter the filth that came from out of town to march through their streets with bats and helmets and Nazi salutes.

I am older and too far away to have participated. But how wonderful that the Charlottesville people showed up to say, "No...not in our town."

We all know that when Nazis and skinheads are confronted, injury is possible. It is so sad that so many were injured, and the young woman Heather Heyer was killed. I hope she didn't suffer. I hope the others fully recover. And I hope that Nazi in jail never sees the light of day again. I can't wrap my head around intentionally driving a car into a group of pedestrians, even if I hated everything they stand for.
