Charlottesville Attack Suspect James Fields Jr Accused of Beating his Mother

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The driver charged with killing a woman at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville was previously accused of beating his mother and threatening her with a knife, according to police records released Monday.

Authorities say 20-year-old James Alex Fields Jr. rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters on Saturday in Charlottesville, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

The records from the Florence Police Department in Kentucky show the man's mother had called police in 2011. Fields' mother, Samantha Bloom, told police he stood behind her wielding a 12-inch knife. Bloom is disabled and uses a wheelchair.

In another incident in 2010, Bloom said that Fields smacked her in the head and locked her in the bathroom after she told him to stop playing video games. Bloom told officers Fields was on medication to control his temper.

I was wondering the same thing. Must have leased it, but still...Maybe he was stealing disability checks from his mom as well?

Fields's father was killed by a drunk driver a few months before the boy's birth, according to an uncle who spoke on the condition of anonymity. His father left him money that the uncle kept in a trust until Fields reached adulthood.

“When he turned 18, he demanded his money, and that was the last I had any contact with him,” the uncle said.

I highly doubt if very few of these hate filled people have someone who loves them. If they did, they would not be embracing hate and violence.

It's heartbreaking that this guy didn't get help when he was 14. Here's hoping he gets the help he needs in prison, and that his mom also gets help and can heal.

If you can pull a knife on your own disabled mother and smack her in the head when you're 13 or 14, you do have what "some people" might call violent tendencies. I'm guessing his anger management issues had something to do with getting drummed out of the military.

Ticking time bomb.

Prison's a great place to be a white supremacist, lots of opportunity for fights with black and Latino gangstas. It's where he belongs. He'll like it there.

The interview I saw seemed like she was in shock. I have 1 child 2 yrs older and another 2 yrs younger than this one of hers. I think if you came to me and told me either of them killed someone intentionally, I would be in shock. She said she moved him into his own apartment and I think that is as far as a mother can go admitting her child is a monster. She said she was watching his cat while he went to an "Allbright" event for Trump. The woman just might not know what he was and may be in denial.
