Update: After huddling at City Hall on Monday, city and state officials and law enforcement say they are prepared for this weekends divisive Free Speech Rally, pledged to keep attendees safe, and said there would be little tolerance for acts of violence if and when the demonstrators arrive in Boston.
Speaking with reporters, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh urged organizers to either cancel their plans, or to reschedule their rally to a later date, given the amount of emotion and anger stirred up by this weekends violence in Charlottesville. He also had words of warning for those who would bring the violence seen in Virginia to Boston. We are a city that believes in free speech, but we will not tolerate incitements to violence, Walsh said. We will not tolerate threatening behavior, and we will stand in solidarity in a diverse community and a diverse nation, as we do every single day.

Get to the further neighborhoods or
out of the city and you'll see a lot
more Trump idiots.

(63,221 posts)have always had a reputation for being extremely racist (Southie, Charlestown, etc.) However, a lot of those neighborhoods are becoming more gentrified and multi-cultural so it has gotten somewhat better. Racial hate tends to be passed down through the generations, so it doesn't go away that easily. These people are still out there, just not as obvious as they would be in a more red area where they would have more support.

(45,000 posts)And Route 2 is a liberal corridor out into the suburbs. And naturally, Ptown. But there's a lot of Red along the south shore down to the cape, West out to Worcester and Springfield, and North too. Population-wise there's a lot more liberals but when you look at a map, it's a few strong blue spots surrounded by Red.

(11,481 posts)The fascists won't be alone, there WILL be a counterprotest.
As to the police response, if it follows the way the rest of them go, the cops will protect the fascists if they're outnumbered by the counterdemonstrators. If they happen to outnumber the counterprotesters, the cops will let them go. That's what they did in Charlottesville and everywhere else this shit has happened.
