"Taneytown takes its name from Raphael Taney, a recipient of one of the first land grants in the area, though Taney likely never lived in the town that bears his name. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Roger Brooke Taney, author of the Dred Scott decision, born in 1777, shares a common ancestor with him."

About a decade ago, while wandering around the historic part of Frederick, we wandered into a house tour of Taney's home. The tour guide was a bit uncomfortable; my wife is African-American. The guide tried to slightly rationalize Taney's contributions. We just stared at her.
Taney was responsible for the notorious Dred Scott decision on the Supreme Court.
Also, the confederate statue in Rockville, the county seat of Montgomery County, was removed to a private location.
That said, Larry Hogan needs to be replaced by a Democrat.
