Washington and Jefferson developed and founded a new country..............Those named above & others were traitors and protectors of the Slave economy.
Traitors have no right to have a statue on American land.

(82,849 posts)Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee took up arms against the United States. That's why public space in the United States should afforded to Washington and Jefferson, and denied to Davis and Lee. If you must put up monuments or memorials to Davis or Lee, put them on public ground in their country, the Confederate States of America - that is, if you can find any such place, because it doesn't exist on any map I own.

(22,976 posts)Each man is a complex historical figure, but "the cause" for which they fought has to be one of the worst in world history. It cannot be separated from the institution of slavery and the wealthy planter class who wanted to maintain their "property" (if one owned at least 20 slaves, he didn't have to fight).

(7,484 posts)While they both owned slaves, one group tried to build a country while having qualms about the institution and the other tried to tear the country apart to protect the institution.
