This is a few years old, but pertinent today. Past time to put these monuments in a museum.

A white man wearing shorts and flip-flops carried a loaded AR-15 to confront a black man who was protesting a Confederate memorial in a Texas town.
Willie Hudspeth carried a sign reading, Please move statue to Confederate museum. God said Love everybody,' during his protest Monday evening on the town square in Denton, reported the Denton Record-Chronicle.
The 69-year-old activist, who has protested the memorial for at least 15 years, said a younger man openly carrying a rifle confronted him as he spoke cordially with another resident who supported the Confederate memorial which had been vandalized earlier that morning with graffiti that said, This is racist.
The younger man, who later identified himself as 22-year-old Stephen Passariello, strode up to Hudspeth and Adam Rinkleff while carrying the military-style rifle and shouted counterprotest.

(15,805 posts)There plenty of current news reporting on today's haters and bigots without digging up these old inflamatory photos to provoke needless outrage.

(46,166 posts)Outrage regarding any events related to the current events is hardly needless. Should we never mention the murder of Martin Luther King or lynchings for fear of provoking outrage?
I never knew about what happened at the Confederate memorial in Texas and consider it a history lesson that teaches how long people have been wanting Confederate memorials removed.

(15,805 posts)Seriously, there is no comparison to a nationally (even worldwide!) recognized and revered figure like MLK, or the dark history of racism that every schoolkid in this country has been taught since the Civil Right Act, and the outdated, one-off event that you flogged into fore, apparently for it's shock value.
Why is that; aren't the thousands of photos and videos and news articles covering the recent ghastly violence dreadful enough? Do we really need to drag out old photos of terrorists brandishing weapons from some obscure past episode of rightwing nuttery when there are so many examples from the actual events in Charlottesville?

(46,166 posts)I have no problem with people posting images illustrating the continuum of history. So, no, I won't stop encouraging it. So just go ahead and block me so you won't see my postings since they're troubling to you. Or not.
Please take the last word. I'm done with responding to you.

(29,322 posts)I don''t have a problem with this. Sometimes I find old stories that interest me or even outrage me even if it's 60 years ago. If I read something for the first time.
