Tina Fey is fuming about last weekends violence in Charlottesville, home to her alma mater, the University of Virginia.
In response, the former Saturday Night Live comedian and writer is spearheading a movement: sheetcaking.
In a surprise appearance on SNLs Weekend Update: Summer Edition Thursday night, Fey urged Americans not to get into screaming matches with neo-Nazis. Instead, she said, order a cake with the American flag on it and just eat it.
She proceeded to stuff her face with sheet cake as she bashed white supremacists, President Trump, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and conservative pundit Ann Coulter (yard-sale Barbie).
With her mouth full of frosting, she seemed to capture the frustration of many Americans in the past week. Almost immediately, the hashtags #sheetcakemovement and #sheetcaking began circulating on social media.

(1,009 posts)they are only going to provoke violence.
Yet on the flip side, I think it is hard for those in a community to stay silent when the nazis come to their own town/city.
Not sure what the right thing is - to ignore and give them as little attention as possible, or shine a spotlight on them.

The KKK saw a rapid decrease in popularity and influence after their secrets were put into Superman comics after Nazis had been the bad guys during the war. http://mentalfloss.com/article/23157/how-superman-defeated-ku-klux-klan
Exposing them. Ridiculing them. Public shaming. Demanding political leaders speak out against them. It all makes a difference.

(1,879 posts)Where they go. We go. Don't let armed Nazis and white supremacist militias march in your towns willy nilly. History has proven the folly of that path.
You don't have to meet them with violence. You do have let them they know their ideology is putrid and vile.

Seems to me that ignoring them, as a strategy, SUCKS.
