(RNN) - Amid rumors of a white supremacist rally in Durham, the county closed down government buildings and crowds flooded into to the street to counter-protest.
Twitter and other social media sites lit up with rumors that a KKK rally would begin at noon ET at the court house.
Live streams from local media and social media show a crowd of about 200 people carrying "No hate" signs and chanting No KKK. No Fascists USA."
A video on Twitter shows a crowd supposedly yelling at four men standing in front of the court house, and the tweet claims they are white supremacists ...

... A number of business in downtown Durham closed and sent workers home as the protests started to ramp up.
The protest that started around noon Friday was peaceful. Demonstrators announced during the rally that there would be another protest around 4 p.m. Friday.

... In a statement released at 12:08 p.m. Sheriff Mike Andrews said there is no confirmation of a white supremacist march.
At this time, law enforcement continues to monitor the area and have not confirmed reports of activity, he said. We are urging the public to avoid circulating rumors on social media and instead wait for verified information from officials monitoring the situation.
Durham attorney T. Greg Doucette was at the Durham County Courthouse at 9:30 a.m. when he said deputies informed the judge that the courthouse was closing.
The judge pulled us aside and recalendared our case for another day, Doucette said ...
