(884 posts)That stupid propaganda website got more traffic in February than Pornhub, ESPN and Fox News.

(28,136 posts)I'm saying the hype of Bannon's so-called "power" is a bit over the top in my opinion.

(884 posts)He's basically got the reach of Fox News, but is more tolerant of fascism and sexism. And he has a few billionaires backing him, as well as you can bet a large chunk of the Republicans in Congress downright terrified of opposing his right-wing media juggernaut.
Mark my words, we are not done fighting Steve Bannon yet.

(27,813 posts)... pointed this out - and forgive me for not remembering who said it.
What he basically said was that Bannon is just a "guy with a website - and not a very good website, at that" - and was now going back to preaching to an already-established choir.

(6,137 posts)Haven't we learned? underestimated trump, dismissed breitbart, stupidity of electorate, etc. Millions are hooked on that garbage and it's addictive to them and damaging for them and the rest of us. We need to understand how to change that. On the democratic side we need something as effective. Don't forget the upcoming Sinclair, are you gonna dismiss that too?
IMO, Bannon is perhaps the most talented propagandist we've ever seen and now he will have unlimited budget. We have not seen anything like this in this country. Faux news will seem 'moderate' soon. Bannon has been able to consolidate most white supremacists under the alt right and has significantly expanded that base. He is effectively converting republican base (quiet sympathizers) to unashamed racists effectively normalizing it.
FBI estimates there are 300k active white supremacists/potential domestic terrorists in the US that are probably armed. Bannon has a pulse and control over the direction of that anger.

(90,758 posts)He has had some success with Breitbart, unfortunately.
It is preaching to the choir and I think maybe Bannon has miscalculated the disgust following Trump's remarks about Charlottesville. He thinks he can get build off it & use our disgust against us by stoking racism, etc.. - but that goes back to his preaching to the choir again. It may have reached saturation already.
But then I think about how stupid people can be.
So, he bears watching.
