What will Trump's excuse be when he quits later this year?

I don't think he'll quit, unless he gets word that there will be criminal charges related to his business dealings. But many are staying this fall he'll quit.

Will he say his work is done? He shook things up and planted the seeds and fixed it all.

Or will he say the fake news has made it impossible to him to govern in the way it needs to be done to make American Great again.

Will he say its been too hard on his family with the fake news making up stories about them and then hounding them with a prosecutor.

Will he need to leave to run his business? Will he have health (wink wink) concerns.

So IF it happens, what does Trump offer up as an explanation?

I wouldn't put it past him pulling some insane shit like that. After all, that's all he really wants to do--run for president. Being president is a crappy, confusing, irritating bore. Campaigning is awesome--all those nazis worshiping him.

You don't deserve me. You didn't know a good thing when you had it. I didn't want this job, anyway. I was doing you a favor by giving you my expertise. I'm the best thing to ever happen to America and you all blew it. Washington is so corrupt a good guy like me can't get anything done. Democrats have ruined government. Republicans are just as bad. You're going to miss me. You'll never have another president like me (he sometimes unintentionally tells the truth). You blew it (because he likes to repeat himself).

I can do more for America as a businessman than president anyway. New Yorkers love me even if you don't. I don't need you but you do need me. But you blew it. (again, he enjoys repeating himself). I'm a billionaire. I'm not the one who needs good government because I benefit anyway. I was doing America a favor. But you blew it, bigly. I was still president. I still won the popular vote no matter what anyone says. Crooked voters. Largest margin of victory ever!

Whatever he says, he will be the victim. He will be the winner. It will be our loss.

Will the cabinet offer him an honorable -cough- exit by resignation, or will they subject him to the humiliation (not that 45 is familiar with that condition) of imposing the 25th Amendment?

The nation simply can't take much more of this. I'm exhausted, and I've lived through 11/22/63, Johnson/Vietnam, Nixon, Reagan, 9/11, Shrub and Fear the Walking Dead (horrible show).

I just want him gone and soon.

I think if defending Nazis and white supremacists so publicly didn't do it, what will?

I really don't know at this point.

There will be the obligatory bragging about the fabulous job he did, his unparalleled accomplishments, and how he's stepping down now that America's all great again and his work is done.

"I tried but corrupt Congress and fake news media tied my hands! To all my supporters, thank you, keep fighting and #MAGA!"

If he goes out he'll do so in a way that seeks to pin the blame for his failures on someone, anyone else, and some percentage of his base will eat it up. And some of them may become violent as a result. Especially if there's a perception that what happened was in effect a quiet coup (which is likely, and Trump himself may try to add fuel to that fire). I don't see any way a Trump presidency ends that doesn't add to general political instability and the likelihood of civil war (I'd argue that we're already there, anyway, in a lot of meaningful ways).

Is Mueller's investigation contingent on Trump remaining president?

I think his ego is too big to accept resigning in disgrace.

He can't be pardoned for state charges unless it's by the governor, which I don't see happening. Trump is particularly despised there.

His troubles won't be going away if he quits, which is why he won't quit.

The Donald's entire brand is built on "winning." Walking away doesn't equal winning. When he leaves the White House, it'll be because he was impeached or lost the election.
