Steven Mnuchin fires defiant message back at Yale classmates pressuring him to resign over Trump's Charlottesville comments

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin sent a defiant message Saturday to his more than 300 former Yale classmates who urged him to resign over President Trump's comments on the violence in Charlottesville, Va., telling the group that he stands by the president and won't back down.

"While I find it hard to believe I should have to defend myself on this, or the president, I feel compelled to let you know that the president in no way, shape or form, believes that neo-Nazi and other hate groups who endorse violence are equivalent to groups that demonstrate in peaceful and lawful ways," Mnuchin said in a statement.

Members of the Yale class of 1985 wrote an open letter on Friday calling on Mnuchin to resign from the Treasury "immediately."

"We do so today because President Trump has declared himself a sympathizer with groups whose values are antithetical to those values we consider fundamental to our sacred honor as Americans, as men and women of Yale, and as decent human beings," the letter read. "President Trump made those declarations loudly, clearly, and unequivocally, and he said them as you stood next to him."

300 to one isn't a bad ratio. Conservatives hate places like Yale because they are so heavily tilted progressive.

I'm actually surprised. I could see Mnuchin saying "It is important to support the president and our government."

But it is clear that the president is a racist and supports white nationalist racists. It's clear his White House tolerates holocaust denial and white supremacy. Why is Mnuchin lying so shamelessly about it?

"The president in no way, shape or form, believes that neo-Nazi and other hate groups who endorse violence are equivalent to groups that demonstrate in peaceful and lawful ways,"

Flat lie. Several tweets and statements this week contradict that. Stop lying, Steve.

Today he's a white nationalist sympathizer, tomorrow he might love liberals. He has no strategic vision beyond what his "instincts" tell him to do in the moment. In that way, he's like a person with severe short term memory loss - there's no yesterday, no today, no tomorrow, just the now.

As a Yale grad you should know better. The reason people know your tragic pathetic excuse of a human masquerading as the president is a racist klan loving Nazi is because he announced it to the world in his rant masquerading as a press conference.
What is unbelievable Steve is you are so craven for power and greedy for tax cuts for you and your fellow plutocrats that you will sacrifice any scrap of honor and decency you might have once possessed to continue to do his bidding like a good lackey.

President Trump "in no way, shape or form, believes that neo-Nazi and other hate groups who endorse violence are equivalent to groups that demonstrate in peaceful and lawful ways." Note the word "equivalent." It was chosen for a reason, because Trump believes his Nazi supporters are superior to other groups. The Nazis get it; they recognize a kindred spirit, and are drawn with great fervor to Trump's administration. Trump's Department of Justice is ending decades of civil rights work to stand with the Nazis.
