His grandfather wrote letter begging not to be deported

Chloe Farand 2 hours ago

When Donald Trump's German grandfather was ordered by a royal decree to leave the country and never return, he wrote a letter pleading the prince regent of Bavaria not to deport him ...

"In this urgent situation I have no other recourse than to turn to our adored, noble, wise, and just sovereign lord, our exalted ruler His Royal Highness, highest of all, who has already dried so many tears, who has ruled so beneficially and justly and wisely and softly and is warmly and deeply loved, with the most humble request that the highest of all will himself in mercy deign to allow the applicant to stay in the most gracious Kingdom of Bavaria" ...

My grandfather came to the US in 1909. At the end of WWI, they went back, found out that things would not work out and came back to the US. Until 1923 the US had a fairly liberal immigration policy. Many immigrants that came in the late 1800s and early 1900s came with the intention of returning back home. They ended up staying.

Unfortunately, there are many Americans who have similar type of experiences in their family who voted for Trump.
