With all due respect to Jerry, I never developed an appreciation for him. Slapstick is not my favorite type of humor.
My Mom, and her Mom, adored him.
I am happy he had a good long life.

My dad loved him, but even as a kid I couldn't stand that kind of baby talk thing he did.

Nothing against him though, and I think he did a lot for charity.

RIP.

And he deserves mega kudos for that. I'm sure a LOT of children/adults were helped from the many years of love and dedication for that organization he put fourth. The Muscular Dystrophy Telethon was a staple in my life, because every year around Labor Day I'd tune in and watch, and me and my family even made donations several times throughout the years, and even as an adult I continued to make donations to MD up until several years ago. Fine memories and a sense of pride in helping "Jerry's Kids" that I shall cherish forever.

However, Jerry Lewis became a different person in the later years of his life. He was not very complementary of women comics, and he had some very racist things to say about Syrian refugees being allowed into the USA, stating that although he'd worked hard for the human condition all of his life (Which he had), but in explaining his opposition to allowing Syrian refugees into the USA: "Syrian Jews are not part of that human condition, if 11 guys in that group of 10,000 are ISIS. How can I take that chance?" As if they weren't going to be vetted? He also criticized Pres. Obama stating that he couldn't stop ISIS (Jerry must have missed the "removal" of Osama Bin Laden during Pres. Obama's Administration). ISIS began in the late 1990's and really revved up because of actions taken BY Pres. Bush's administration's illegal invasion of Iraq. And as of late, he supported a tRumputin presidency (Even though tRumputin IS a birther/racist/sexual predator) saying that he'd made a "good" president because he was a great "showman." Uh huh, he sure made a fine "Showman" alright when he stood at a podium, with the US Presidential seal on it just last week & in front of the WORLD defending those "nice" Nazis, White Nationalists and Klansmen on the other side--one of which (James Fields) MURDERED Heather Heyer in an act of cowardice, racism & homegrown terrorism (And Jerry was scared of Syrian Refugees coming over here to the US, yet James Fields was born and raised right here in the good old USA).

At some point later in his life, the laughter and humor associated with Jerry his whole life stopped and were unfortunately replaced by bitterness, ignorance and racist bile. Very sad thing to have witnessed, but

Anyway ....

RIP Mr. Lewis, and thank you for what you've done in helping to improve treatment/care in the lives of Muscular Dystrophy sufferers.
