Charlottesville Victim, De'Andre Harris, Closes GoFundMe

Dre Harris, a special needs teacher, who was Afrucan American, was brutally beaten by 4 white supremacists, with wood beams & metal rods, during the Charlottesville saga. He had to have stiches, a cast and therapy.

He started a GoFundMe page, seeking $50,000, to assist medical expenses; and he shut it down at $166,000.

Greg Palast Photojournalist Zach D. Roberts took pictures of the event, and faced terrorist who pulled a gun, in order to quash defenders coming to Dre Harris's aid.

1. I wonder how much Harris' race plays a part in the lack of charges, let alone arrests, in his case.

Some of his assailants have been identified. I think one was interviewed by a Georgia newspaper and yet he still walks free. I'm surprised there has not been more outrage over this incident.

But social media ID's have been wrong -- even some of Ch'ville Nazis have already proven to be wrong. (And a false identification was traumatic for one of the wrongly accused.)

So we need to wait for the police to do their investigation. Unfortunately, the 19 year old who is a "person of interest" was from Ohio, but his current address is not yet known. The FBI is now involved.

13. Be aware that DU has been scammed at least twice.

Both were exposed; but many of us are very leery of those fund raisers.

Several DUers were instrumental in exposing the scammers, and I imagine they'll use their excellent sleuthing with any gofundmes that might appear.

I don't know how they were able to find out the information they discovered, but I was very appreciative of their efforts.
