It's November 7th, 2012. What landmarks do you want to see in our President's second term?

I don't know about you but I get pretty wrapped up in the moment sometimes. Let's look out past the inshore waves and take a longer look.

For me? The new Obama Supreme Court overturns Citizen's United.

Dare I hope for universal single payer health care?

And you?

is the job of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Obama and Reid are currently in agreement that the judicial confirmations need to speed up.
Reid is doing everything he can within his power (at this time) to get them confirmed - it is the Republicans that are obstructing.

We need to elect more Democratic Senators and then this would no longer be a problem

will guarantee a filibusterproof Senate.

But they've got the machines to fuck it up.

Second best: Remove filibusters on all general issues EXCEPT nominations, and it will be clotured by only a simple majority.

And any filibusters has to be an actual filibuster on the floor 24/7 until the speaker is exhausted - and it has to be the filibusterer, not some junior senator trying to fill up time, not some "pretext to filibuster" or "threaten to filibuster" crap.

Bring it on, Republicans, because we know you're at the last legs of your stupidity, and it'll be broken up to three sets of parties. The Tea Party, the Liberterians and the Religious Right - and all of them will be permanently assigned into less than 5% minority.

Obama issued an Executive Order to close GITMO and then Congress screwed everything up after that.

See the GITMO updates on the link below:

p.s. On that link start at the bottom of the page and work your way upward.

Of course, I'd like to see a major WPA started too.

Ain't gonna happen with this Congress either, but I'm assuming it'll flip back over in November.

I am looking forward to Obama to have the opportunity to appoint at least two more Supreme Court Justices in his second term.
I think a new Court would will strike down DOMA and overturn Citizens United.

According to this the article on this link: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/06/18/120618fa_fact_lizza?printable=true
Obama might tackle 'Climate Change' and 'Immigration Reform' - and continue his efforts to contain nuclear proliferation.

If there's a misnomer, it's Department of Defense.

America is not in the business of being the world police.

We needs to go back to taking care of our own, and butting out of other people's business.

End all foreign oil dependency, and invest on our own infrastructure and alternate energy and transportation issues.

That's a WPA just waiting to happen.

Oh and destroy ALL FICO scores and amnesty all Americans from debt.

We start clean.

After this bruising election season Obama will need to draw together and heal with the Republican party in order to get things accomplished for the American people.

Hey, 90% of the time I get exactly the opposite of what I want out of the politicians, maybe reverse psychology will work for once.

Obama Second Term Agenda: Immigration Reform and Mideast Peace
July 15, 2012

In an interview with WJLA the ABC Washington affiliate:

“I have not been able to move the peace process forward in the Middle East the way I wanted,” he said in an interview with WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C. “It’s something we focused on very early. But the truth of the matter is, that the parties, they’ve got to want it as well.”

Obama also pointed to strengthening the economy and passing comprehensive immigration reform as goals for a second term. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, especially in rebuilding our middle class here in this country but ultimately it’s going to require people coming together and Congress working with the executive branch.”

it goes to the basic electoral system we have. While Citizens United is in place, it allows GOP big money to buy elections, making it harder for non-GOP to win fair and square.

THEN the tweaking of the ACA begins, stepping it closer to single payer. But recognizing that it won't happen, really, in the next few years. But I can see all the ugly posts now about how Obama's not pushing on single payer, etc., and hating on him for that.

I'm of the belief that it has to be done in steps. But FIRST AND FOREMOST, we need to elect Democrats to Congress. So we need Citizens United overturned.

31. My wish list
Mon Jul 16, 2012, 04:05 AM
Jul 2012

Bring our troops home safely.

Cut the 'defense' budget as much as possible (I'd like to see it cut 50% - hey, it's a wish list!)

A new New Deal

Massive investment in solar, wind & other energy, especially investment that provides good paying jobs

Two or three liberal added to Supreme Court

End the costly drug war

Reduce the deficit significantly - even balance the budget, again, it's a wish list! - so even boneheads will have to admit democrats are more fiscally responsible

The rise of a Green Party that pressures democrats to behave like liberals, and that then throws it's support behind democratic candidates if they don't win in the primaries

Close to 100% voter turnout among democrats.

Permanent restructuring of tax system. Make under $50,000 per year, you don't even have to file. 50-60% tax rates on the top 5%. Double the large corporate tax rate and close all the loopholes. That alone would practically eliminate the budget deficit in a few years!

Too many more to mention here. One last one. Free ice cream!
