I know that most of the talk is about Trump pardoning Joe Arpaio, which operates to wipe out his conviction. However, I personally think that Trump is more likely to go the Scooter Libby route and commute his sentence, which simply wipes out the punishment, but leaves the sentence intact.
I am sure Trump personally wants to pardon Joe Arpaio, but his staffers are probably warning him that going that route will just feed into another round of protests. So, instead, Trump will commute Arpaio, then the GOP will hit the news channels with the talking points that Trump is being Presidential by splitting the baby between Neo-Nazis and sane Americans. After all, he will say, "There are many sides, many sides."

(17,387 posts)...may suggest that he is waiting for Arpaio to be sentenced so that he could commute and wipe out the punishment.

Pardoning Arpio feeds his base of haters. I'd be shocked if Trump doesn't act.

(19,558 posts)It won't lift the vile stain of racism from Arpaio and it will energize Democrats, but I still expect him to parson him.
