Nazis and Evangelicals

Last edited Thu Aug 24, 2017, 06:53 PM - Edit history (1)

Two groups with some of the highest support of trump.

What it is I'm not exactly sure, but there is an underlying psychological connection between the two. Right-wing authoritarian followers explains some of it.

1. Martin Luther

Martin Luther did three significant things.

1. His German language Bible was significantly influential in standardizing the German language.

2. His stance against Rome provided German principalities with a basis for greater German independence.

3. His publication of "On The Jews and Their Lies" provided a blueprint for the elimination of Jews from Germany.

The majority of the German population which eventually implemented Luther's ideas about Jews were the Protestant ideological descendants of Luther.

Cain and his descendants are condemned to bear a mark by which they will be recognized and detested through posterity. I don't know about Catholics, but brown skin as the Mark of Cain was a longtime staple of American Protestantism.

As far as Luther is concerned, this treatise is worth a read in its entirety:

Another poster has posted something you should read regarding Martin Luther. AS for the Klan and neo-Nazis and evangelicals, there are lots of space in many ways, but they, like many on the left, conflate support for Israel with support for Jews. They are not mutually exclusive; in fact, most evangelicals "support" Israel because of their little end of the world myths; Jews are a means to an end. The left uses anyone supporting Israel as their backbone of proof of support for racism, but in reality, it is they who are engaged in anti-Semitism. Of course, there are exceptions to both sides, but when you shake the tree hard enough, the anti-Semites fall out regularly.

They are fearful empty people who depend upon Big Men on earth and Imaginary Male Deities in the sky to tell them right from wrong.

Unfortunately these big men and those pretending to represent deities are frequently rotten and deceitful.

Most of the Trump supporters I encounter are white Evangelical Christians. I don't get it.

I know there's a crowd of affluent white Trump supporters, but I don't know any. The affluent white people I know are Jerry Brown Democrats who know taxes and government regulations are an essential aspect of any prosperous society.

Trump is just as ignorant and incurious as they are... and yeah, a racist too.

and I realize I'm nearing the end I so wish we didn't have this lie that is religion of any kind. there is no god up there anywhere , there is no higher power. Its all myth and is a creation of man to facilitate the control of the many by a few. People get sucked into this going to, whatever religion they choose or are born into, heaven. There is no heaven, nor is there a hell.

OTOH, there is right and there is wrong. Thats all there is to it. Be right by your fellow inhabitants on this planet and live a meaningful life of discovery, beauty and peace. Peace being the top of the list of what to strive for. With it the rest come naturally

I was born into the southern baptist way and was baptized somewhere around the age of 10. By the age of 14 I knew in my heart of hearts that religion was all a scam. So I guess I can say that is when I lost my religion.

What do Nazis and Evangelicals believe exactly though?

* Belief in hierarchies - Some people and groups of people should be high up on the social ladder, others should be lower. And the social ladder gets you things like the higher you go, the more government should represent you, the more perks you get, more respect you can demand from other people, etc.

* Paranoia about their place in said hierarchy though - They are usually saying that their place in the hierarchy ISN'T from bigotry, racism, or corruption, but hard work and chance and that if you're lower than them, it's not because of the world or the system but because there is something wrong with you and the groups you consider yourself a part of. But when other groups are perceived to be coming up the social ladder or replacing them, it's all of the sudden because of favoritism, it's because everybody is out to get them.

* Violence is something the 'other' does - They want to talk about "Muhammad" shooting at people, not say "Adam Lanza" or "Jason Dalton", just like how Evangelicals will always see themselves as the persecutED, never the persecutOR. Donald is this phenomenon in action.
