If all you have to do is be Baptized and have Faith, why waste time on the Sermon on the Mount?

This is a question that needs to be asked of the GOP claiming to be oh so Christian.

Did Jesus give his speeches, teach his disciples, spread the word of God that you are to show your Faith by your actions....because he likes to hear himself talk?

If you believe he is the son of God, don't you think you should focus on the red letters in the bible, you know the words of Jesus, the reason he came, to help humanity move forward in love, to teach us to treat each other in love, as if we are all brothers and sisters.

They think Jesus came and died just to 'save' them. That's it. I know these people are self centered and entitled but they really missed the point. Jesus came for them. Just for them. It's all about them.

These hypocrites need to be confronted. We need to take this whole religious bullshit dogma out of the hands of the anti-christs.

They need to be asked "what would Jesus do" in today's America?

Jesus said absolutely NOTHING about gay marriage or abortion other than we should love everyone, prostitutes and tax collectors, as our equals. He said we should treat people how we want to be treated. We should look out for the 'least' of us.

They need to be asked about the wars. Which part of "Thou Shall Not Kill" don't they understand? The way they have been behaving, lying, cheating, stealing, killing...they really think they will fool God when they get to the pearly gates?

Blessed are the Peacemakers For they Shall be Called the Children of God.

Many self identified Christians are the same people trashing the poor, claiming that recipients of any type of government benefit don't work or never worked. They are just cruel to the poor, likely due to their own insecurities. But they only hear what they want to hear regarding their religion.

if they do not agree with their politics of greed and superiority.

Jesus told us to love our enemies, that anyone could love their family and friends, it is the ability to love our enemies that will help us rise above the rut humanity is stuck in.

But these people are hating on their own family members, facebook arguments abound, people can't even have a conversation about world events anymore, everyone is so angry and hateful.

And then we have sociopaths leading the assault on the American people that they fully support, I don't think any amount of love will fix these people. Sociopaths are incapable of empathy...how would Jesus handle that I wonder.... they would kill us all while we turn the other cheek....

but I never read the Bible until I left the catholic church and then I was blown away by it's messages so different from the actions of the congregation.

I don't think most 'Christians' ever read the Bible. They are spoon fed tiny portions that the clergy wants you to hear, usually about how you should tithe.

This is why I think we should all start confronting them with the words of Jesus. They actually might not have ever even heard it before.

I've met people who held to this doctrine, exactly as described in the title -- only by having the "salvation" epiphany followed by baptism can you be saved, and once you are you stay saved no matter what you do, because salvation means you're pre-forgiven. These people tend to be exactly as selfish, cruel, and downright evil as you might expect.

They are unmoved by the Sermon on the Mount because they happily cherry pick their Bible verses, and there are other verses that can be interpreted pretty easily as supporting this OSAS BS. They are very highly focused on the apocalyptic battle between the good guys (them) and the bad guys (everyone else) which God has promised them they will win. And they feel this gives them carte blanche to do whatever it takes to advance their cause.

You can't reason with them because their inner logic is airtight. Facts which contradict their worldview are rejected as misinterpretations or lies. All you can do is never show them your back, because they will shiv you in an instant if they think there is advantage either for their cause or themselves personally.

He's the one that started the "organization" known as "the Church". He started re-writing the teachings of Jesus Of Nazareth from the minute he started his "crusade". He started implying "new rules" and interpretations that lead the opposite direction. Paul was just a dude that fell off his horse and started hearing voices. He didn't do the hard work that makes a person a "master" of his soul. And ever since, he's been convincing people that they don't have to do the hard work of individuation that is required to "follow" Jesus' path. They just have to use their forked tongues to "say" I believe, therefore I get the benefits.

Jesus' teachings weren't that salvation is a welfare handout to those whose hearts are closed to doing the hard work of growing into a good, Christ-like human being. But republicans are the welfare Christians.
