BY NIALL STANAGE - 08/26/17 06:02 AM EDT
Republicans on Capitol Hill lament President Trump's aggressive behavior toward them, but some people in the president's orbit are urging him to up the ante even further.
They say that, far from making nice, Trump needs to instill fear so that lawmakers do not feel at liberty to thwart him.
Most members of Congress are arrogant, and until a scalp is actually taken they are going to continue to be defiant, longtime Trump friend Roger Stone told The Hill. All he needs to do is punish one incumbent and I think youd see a sea-change.
Advice like Stones feeds the president's instincts to hit back hard against those whom he believes have wronged him: a list that at present appears to include Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as well as GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.).
Trumps biggest defeat to date, on his attempt to gut the Affordable Care Act, came at the hands of McCain and Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska.), who joined Democrats to sink a Senate bill. Other Trump loyalists join Stone in arguing that the president should neither forgive nor forget.

(47,418 posts)The Senate is more like a club and members serve for much longer periods of time. Trump is declaring war on the legislative branch of government and it won't end well for him.

(63,221 posts)It's unconstitutional. He's not a dictator - yet - and the constitution is still the law of the land. Of course, I don't think he knows that. He thinks he's the effing King of America.

(51,585 posts)instill fear in the rest, and then you have total control.
This happened in my school district with a new School Board President. One day he fired 17 principals during his first month in office. They were told the morning when they went to work and policemen escorted them to their desks to get their belongings and were walked to their cars and it was all over the news. The remaining principals cowered and the did the same to the teachers. Who were we supposed to pass it onto after that, the students? Life was unbearable and 50% of the teachers took early retirement within the next 5 years. The rest of us were "grateful" to keep our jobs. It has never gone back to how it was before when you would often enjoy teaching.

Who is Roger Stone, the Long-Time R Dirty-Trickster and Miami Mob Leader?
