Democrats will be making a big mistake if they do not oppose every Republican running next election.

Because...

The present Republican Party is going to split straight down the middle, one side Breitbart/Trump Republicans and the other side establishment Republicans.

All the Democrats need to do is show up. They don't need a celebrity or a big name on the ballot. They just need a name.

This is a huge opportunity for Democrats if....

....we can make it to the next election.

Parties don't split and implode like that.

We need independents to break heavily our way.

.....a hell of a lot more than just show up.

They need to clearly explain what they are offering for the voter to vote for.

We need enthusiastic turn out. Not just split Repugs in order to win 2018.

We do need stars.

Do not get drawn into any issue that involves sex, for example. Either stand on principle or find an appropriate way to address the issue without alienating the majority of voters.

Most people put their jobs and livelihood over the issue of global warming, for example.

Democrats need to be more aware of what star they tie their wagon to, if they want to win elections.

Just my opinion.

I agree every position needs challenged, but while the party is fracturing a bit, it always, ALWAYS defaults back to one thing - hatred of the evil liberal boogyman.

If they split their votes 600 to 400 in the primary, they will vote 1,000 for the guy or gal facing the godless, communist, socialist, puppy killing democrat.

because climate change impacts everyone, no matter where they live.

Hurricane Harvey will not be the end of it. By a long shot. We will have more "500-year" disasters before the 2018 elections rolls around.

In the context of reality and fact, the systematic and America-endangering LIES of the republican party are VULNERABLE.

...and I do think we will have more "500-year" events before the polls open in 2018.

Republicans can call this "weather" but the flood waters will eventually flush their evil, anti-life, and dangerous bullshit down into the cesspool from whence it came.

Limbaugh was explaining it to his followers this morning. He mentioned a hurricane in 1935 that took over ten thousand lives.... etc.

I have no idea what it will take if this does not persuade them??

In bipartisan show of support, Democrats plan to host fundraiser for Curbelo. He's also got Rubio lined up.

Source: Miami Herald

A group of well-known local Democrats will collect campaign cash later this month -- for a Republican.

Miami Rep. Carlos Curbelo will attend an Aug. 23 fundraising reception hosted by nine Democrats, including former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter and Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace, according to an invitation to the event.

Curbelo drew his first Democratic opponent with national party backing, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, on Wednesday.

The sophomore congressman has campaigned as a moderate -- an image that can only be bolstered with Democratic financial support. Among the Democrats co-hosting the fundraiser are Ira Leesfield, a major Hillary Clinton donor, and attorney Roland Sanchez-Medina. Last year, Sanchez-Medina served as campaign treasurer for Curbelo's Democratic rival, Joe Garcia.

Nice thought, but conservative voters are outstandingly cohesive and loyal to their team. They choose their team, leaders arrive at the top of that team, and they then tend in very strong numbers to both support those leaders AND adopt the leaders positions, whatever they are, and repeat the leaders catchphrases and lies.

As 2016 and 2017 are demonstrating outstandingly. Even if they decide their leader is a dud and abandon him far more quickly than the 7 years 11 months they stuck behind W, they'll regroup behind whoever else moves into place for them.

It's not going to be a walkover, and the Republican Party is already far outpacing us in political donations, almost all from the very wealthy, of course.

Or a rise in turnout among the usually uninvolved.

But the right-wing powers, even including Russia as it turns out, are hard at work on minimizing and developing offsets to both threats right now. Like causing US to not turn out in huge numbers.

Ever notice, by the way, that the "progressive revolution" has shrunk to silly intraparty bickering over single payer? Virtually no mention of income inequality, 40 million full-time workers unable to earn a living wage, and the threats a billionaire class poses to democracy, just petty bickering. That's that billionaire class at work turning us from our purpose and dividing us.

It won't be a walkover.
