(5,751 posts)and we also imagine that there will be climate refugees. Houston will become a smaller city, like New Orleans did, and a lot of folks will be moving. Does it really make sense to rebuild Houston the way it was?

(15,543 posts)We can be sure the republicans will try to pretend that's not happening, just like they pretend climate change is fake. Dangerous.
Very dangerous for the republicans to leave America unprepared and undefended for the reality of extreme weather events driven to high intensity by climate change. Sad and dangerous.

(32,076 posts)My husband is a construction manager and has found over the last 20 years that folks like us, from up north, generally can't handle framing a house in 99° weather with 95% humidity.
If you're not used to this climate it's challenging and dangerous
On the other hand October in Houston is like August in Chicago gorgeous.

(32,076 posts)Haven't even lost power or Internet. We have a two-story in one of the highest homes in the subdivision . A lot of our one-story neighbors have been evacuated from down the street .
Several of our neighbors have converged in our driveway to have what they call cowboy coffee. Folgers with rum. The relief here is palpable, and getting loud LOL
Thank you for asking, there is devastation all around us and we've been very lucky
