Detroit mayor: I'll chair Biden's 2020 campaign if he wants to run

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 08/29/17 09:49 AM EDT

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan (D) said in a recent podcast that he would chair former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign should Biden decide to run.

“Well you know I’d do it if Joe Biden wanted to,” Duggan told Politico’s Off Message podcast published Tuesday.

Biden had recorded a robocall for Duggan earlier this month on the eve of his mayoral primary. Duggan will face off against Michigan State Sen. Coleman Young Jr. (D) in his fight for reelection.

Duggan said earlier in the podcast recording that Biden is “completely loved” in Detroit. “You know, I spent time with him. I know, after he lost his son and if it had been at a different point, he would be president now,” Duggan said.

Biden in his upcoming book focuses on his son’s death and his decision not to enter the race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

on his state's 6 year descent into Republicanism from 2010 forward.

One positive about Biden is that he is not on Putin's radar-whether that would translate into not interfering in our elections-I don't know.

The magical thinking that one's preferred presidential candidate will somehow make up for a party's neglect of its midterm elections.

Republicans in Michigan did not just wait for the next presidential election after their defeat in 2008.

Instead they focused on the midterm election in Michigan in 2010 and turned the state republican, from governor on down. The immediate reward for their hard work---2010 was an apportionment year and they got to gerrymander the state.

Republican are wrong on almost every issue-but they seem be skillful at winning elections, and

even state-wide election experience, so I'm not sure his offer is going to sway Mr Biden. And isn't being mayor of Detroit a full-time gig?
