Of course, that comes back to bite us because they aren't better and will attack every goddamn thing, which we saw on the third anniversary of tansuitgate.

Yes, it's meaningless. But it's not something that most media outlets will be talking about in the slightest. It might show up on talk shows or off the cuff pieces as well as slush houses online.

And it's entirely warranted because of how they act all the time to call them out on it.

People vote their guts. Melania is an airhead trophy wife that Donald selected like someone buying a prize cow. It's useful to call attention to that kind of thing whenever possible.

I don't know about everybody else but I'd rather win ugly than lose with grace and elegance.

Of course we should not "attack every goddamn thing," but the photo of Melania in stilettos heading to Houston really crystalizes how out of touch she and Trump are at this crucial time. If we ignore instances like this, we do so to our detriment. You don't win elections by ignoring what is bad about your opponent.

Does she need to show up in public in pumps that likely cost several grand when she's off to potentially meet people who have lost everything?

It's not that she wore heels, it's that she is wearing insensible hooker stilettos to a place where she probably won't want to get them wet.

There are times for fashion, and times when you're the first lady and should wear sensible shoes. Even stylish boots would have been more appropriate and waterproof and at least give the impression she's not afraid to wade in and help whether she would or not.

Most likely she didn't think...and this is the normal shoe she'd wear wherever she was going.

But lady, it's raining outside. Put on some hiking boots so nobody needs to carry you over the water.

Such as 1.5-2 inch wedge pumps. Many women wear them as part of business attire. She could have looked both "fashionable" and "walkable".

and clued her in. You do not wear six-inch heels, Seventies sunglasses, and a bomber jacket on your way to a natural disaster. Changing into a white blouse and sneakers on the plane does not translate to compassion. It's ok to talk about it because it is a glimpse into their understanding of what is in Houston. They have none -- understanding, that is.

Her shoes are only proof positive that she isn't in contact with the feelings of others or for others, or of the gravity of the situation. It reinforces the attitude that the rest of us are really only peons to her. That how she looks is so important that she doesn't have to even dress down for an occasion such as a disaster that will leave millions in dire straights for a very long time. She shows she really doesn't care, other than to make an obligatory appearance.

It shows she doesn't have a clue about the proper conduct towards people who's lives are completely upended right now. And it also shows she doesn't care whether she has a clue because I'm sure she has an assistant to guide her through being first lady.

I work for a company that provides logistical support for the USFS in the western United States during wildfire season. When I travel I wear business casual. Good to know that I should be wearing my Danners and Nomex on the flight.

There are plenty of things this administration can be taken to task for without lowering ourselves down to this level of pettiness. Already these "look at her shoes' threads are popping up on other websites by conservatives, and not for their insightful reflection of the issues.

I prefer to judge a person by their actions/inaction, not by what they wear. Just walk down Market St. for 10 minutes and please tell me which people are the community leaders, the job creators and the humanitarians based on what they are wearing.

We are better than this.

Since I have a very low post count I will now

She had on a bomber jacket a definite clue she has not been on the Gulf Coast in August. By the time she landed she had changed into the white shirt and ditched the jacket, swapped stilettos for sneaks and yanked her hair into a ponytail. A FLOTUS ball cap topped off her ensemble. Voila! Disaster chic.
