350 alligators on verge of escaping Texas facility

http://www.nola.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2017/08/350_alligators_on_verge_of_esc.html#incart_m-rpt-2

For residents of Beaumont, Texas, dealing with the flooding from Hurricane Harvey has been like a bad dream, but that may be about to turn into a true nightmare. An area alligator attraction has flooded, and if waters continue to rise, 350 of its alligators will gain their freedom and filter out into the community, according to KFDM/Fox 6.

Gary Saurage, owner of Gator Country, told the news station Monday the prospects for keeping the large reptiles on the site were looking grim.

"We're less than a foot from (water) going over the fences," he said. "All of these are certified, high fences, but when it won't quit, it won't quit.

"We've worked around the clock, and I don't know what else to do. We're truly tired. Everybody's at the end of it, man. We don't know what to do."

The charge can be adjusted. It doesn't have to be deadly. It works on livestock.

These won't be the skittish shy natural behaving gators.

These will be bold and swim up to people expecting food.

is there an alligator petting zoo, too?

"Everybody's at the end of it, man. We don't know what to do." yeah, the whole what-to-do-now thing is kind of a toughy. perhaps this series of events will provide a learning opportunity useful for informing future activities.

People buy or catch little alligators and try to raise them as pets. When the critters outgrow the bathtub and start to snap at the kids, they end up at these alligator ranches. They're no-kill shelters for alligators.
