Houston expanded way out and now there is a lot of paved land with no where for the water to go. Texas is known for it's lack of regulations and Harvey shows what happens. And finally the denial of climate change makes for some very dumb leaders and people.

for not letting them build homes on the lake bed that had been dammed and won. Asshole Repug appointed judges are to blame for tons of misery, but what do you bet that they build these same homes back on the same spot so they flood again, putting lives at risk again!

Now that the whole place has flooded, banks will probably REQUIRE flood insurance for lots of places that it did not before, so builders may not be so eager to build homes that they cannot easily sell..

We loved a house near the coast in Washington, but the premium for the flood insurance was 9K a year..so even though the home price was cheap, it was out of line for us ....

and any home that has been flooded must disclose it, so people may not want to buy it, even if it's been rehabbed.

Many middle income people will just have to walk away and have ruined credit for 10 years (after a bankruptcy)..

Those houses may have to be bulldozed..and hopefully the land left to be what it should be...watershed...

I just remember flooding, Red River Valley, don't remember the state, and they just rebuilt the homes in the same areas. So stupid. Hope you are right about the land being left as a watershed, it's only logical.
