I really hope some of these younger folks are motivated to vote in 2018 based on the Trump disaster.

(25,241 posts)work on figuring out a way to get them out to vote. I bet a lot of these 18 - 29 y/o's are buried under massive student loans. Do you think we Dems can work on something that can help ease this burden? That could get them out to vote.
Any other things we can do to appeal to them? Let's be constructive for once.

(26,060 posts)If they care about the country they live in, they should already be voting. I'm tired of making excuses for these lazy, entitled creeps who sit back whining how both sides suck.

(25,241 posts)I thought most people vote their pocketbook. Issues like taxes; health care; social programs; etc.
i guess we can't offer some alternatives to this young group. So let's just write them off - huh?

(26,060 posts)under the reign of a degenerate who is going to put more scalia's on the court isn't enough to get them off their asses, then yes, they're too stupid to cater to. I've been voting Democratic my entire life (I'm almost 57) and I didn't need anyone to "cater" to me or buy my vote.
global1
(25,241 posts)Your getting up there in age. So let's tax the hell out of you. Let's take away Medicare. Social security. Healthcare insurance going up. Huh? Those are pocketbook issues - that I'm sure that you take into consideration when you vote.
Why can't this young cohort have a pocketbook issue to motivate them? Or do you just want it all for yourself.
Let them struggle. Let them squirm. Let's make it hard for them. After all they are whiny, snotnosed, spoiled brats. Is that it?
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)I would vote republican - every single time. I don't NEED social security or medicare - is that clear enough?

(25,241 posts)back the House and Senate.
Come on people - I'm 69 y/o and I feel for this cohort of people. They are struggling. Wanting to get married, raise a family, get a good decent paying job to buy a house, furniture, a car, etc. They can't because they are buried in debt - student debt.
When I was their age - I was able to pay my way through college - no student loans.
We tell them to get a good education - and nowadays - that's even in question - and you have to sell your soul to the devil to even afford to do that.
And when you get out of school your looking at 20+ years and more to pay off your loans. And the employers take advantage of them by being tightwads on salary.
Have some compassion people!!!!

(14,854 posts)the majority of whom VOTED FOR TRUMP! They're the ones who put his disgusting ass in office, they're the ones who still say they approve of his job performance, they're the ones who would vote for him again, given a second chance! But, no one is calling them names in this thread. Why is it on the young people to clean up after the old people's stupidity?
I am young person who hates other young people for that reason.
If these people actually voted we wouldn't have had Trump.
Mariana
(14,854 posts)we wouldn't have Trump, either. Do you hate them too?
FTR, I'm an old person who didn't vote for Trump. Most people my age did vote for him, and IMO they are much more deserving of contempt than the young people are.
nycbos
(6,034 posts)In particular the older voters.
I never had hate for people before.
I thought you could be an honorable person and vote for a John McCain a Mitt Romney. Even W.
However, I think the young people are more deserving of contempt.
A lot of them have left leaning values and they couldn't figure out that Hillary wasn't the same as Trump. To paraphrase Bill Maher "the difference between an imperfect friend and a deadly enemy."
Or they believed the primary was rigged "because they didn't know anyone who voted who voted for Hillary."
A lot of them STILL don't get it despite everything that Trump has done. They think issues like choice, gay rights and justice for African Americans are "distractions."
With "friends" like that who needs enemies.
Mariana
(14,854 posts)I don't think they're worse, though. Right now, the majority of people over 50 approve of Trump. They'd vote for him again, given the chance. They'd do it enthusiastically. They're worse.

(17,003 posts)This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Dems to get young people engaged in the political process. If getting Twitler and his cohorts out of office doesn't motivate someone to get off their butt and vote I don't know what would.

(25,241 posts)to take back the House & Senate and render Trump impotent. If it takes SCOTUS appointments to get you out so be it. But we need to appeal to The American People across the board. Women - what issues will motivate them to GOTV? LGBTQ - what issues will get them to GOTV? The Elderly - what issues will get them to GOTV? The Sick, Disabled - what issues will get them to GOTV. Minorities - what issues will get them to GOTV? And yes - the 18 to 29 y/o cohort - what issues will get them to GOTV.
We can't just campaign against Trump. Look where that got us. And yes - we need to come down the hardest on Trump's enablers - the Repugs. They are the reason we are where we are now and they keep circling the wagons around Trump.
If we need to buy the votes to defeat them - then so be it.
With the ways we Dems can help all these groups and the America People in general - we'll all be better off.
So guy - get off your high horse and think of the whole of The American People.
I really find your attitude distasteful. I don't make it a habit here to take on my fellow DU'ers - but I had to make an exception in your case.
I'm embarrassed to call myself a Dem when I run into people with attitudes like yours.
Come on - try to be more positive!!!!

(26,060 posts)is the answer to ALL the questions you asked. I vote in every single election - even in off year ones where it's only local judges so telling ME to get off my high horse is fucking hilarious. How about getting those lazy entitled shits who need to be catered to and babied to get off THEIR high horses? If they didn't take the trouble to look at Hillary the candidate - what she stood for, what she supported, what she wanted to accomplish - and not the cartoon creature created by the media, it's their own damn fault for being so lazy.

(25,241 posts)you get out of your snit and talk to - what you call lazy people - and educate them. Fire them up. Get them engaged. Get them to GOTV. Maybe by talking to them personally you might better understand them.
It does no good just to post your complaints here. Do something constructive, positive.
Cause I don't want to be reading your negative posts after we lose in 2018 & 2020.

(26,060 posts)with - nieces, nephews, cousins and their significant others and their friends wouldn't ever consider not voting. They're responsible people who don't need to be bought. It always surprises me when the pathetic percent of their generation comes up after the elections as to how many didn't vote. Who the fuck are these losers? As for the poor little darlings who didn't vote, I'm not in the least bit interested in their opinion on ANYTHING. Let them suffer under republican presidents. I'll be fine either way.

(7,107 posts)1) Jobs, jobs, jobs. The Democrats better be the party of American jobs in every election going forward.
2) Student Loans/Cost of University. The Democrats need to be the party of affordable education.
3) Environment. The Democrats need to be the party protecting the environment and alternative energy.
But #1 is the most important.
