We saw that in Charlottesville, with the moron militia showing up with their AR-15 clones strapped to their backs. Pretty much everyone else, including the huge majority of people who showed up, came without armaments. That peaceful protesters don't go to demonstrations armed, however, does not mean that they are not armed, nor does it mean they are not ready for a fight, should things come to that.
Cowards bring arms with them out of fear. They don't actually intend to use them, and, in fact, generally carry them without loading them. Those arms are some sort of protection against the carriers' own fears. And poor protection they are, indeed.
From time to time, we hear warnings that this cowardly bunch is "ready for war," should things not go their way. That's extremely doubtful, really. I doubt they're ready for anything beyond their little intimidation games, but if they are, they will be surprised at how many of the people they loathe and mock also own firearms. Very surprised.
If cowards such as the ones we've seen, who break into tears when they are caught and brought to justice, actually start using those firearms, they'll be surprised at the reaction, I have no doubt. I wouldn't ever bring a firearm to a public protest, but if the cowards bring their arms to my neighborhood, thinking they will prevail, they will not be pleased with the result.
In my neighborhood, there are many people who have arms, but who are quiet about it. They don't display them as tools of intimidation or carry them to public gatherings. Instead, they simply have them and understand their use. 2/3 of my neighborhood is made up of Hmong families, who came to this country as refugees. The older people fought for the United States during the Vietnam war. Their children and grandchildren are hunters and know the elder's stories.
Then, there are folks like me, who served in the military in one place or another. Many of them also own firearms, but also don't display them, flaunt them or use them to intimidate. They will, however, use them to defend themselves, their families, their neighbors and the principles of this country.
Cowards should take note.

(3,613 posts)If you come to fight, get pool noodles from the cops. You are licensed. And if you misuse them, it is a felony. Nazis and Antifa can get them, but they must register their affiliation.

(146,286 posts)A tiny group of right-wing creeps showed up and had to shelter in place while thousands surrounded their "Free Speech" protest. Following that, almost all of the right-wing's planned demonstrations were cancelled. They simply do not have the numbers, and their unloaded AR-15s are no protection against an overwhelming peaceful response in the thousands.
They know they're outnumbered and can't actually do the things they claim they can do. They can't admit that, but they know it. They go to such events armed because it makes them feel safer, somehow, against an overwhelming negative response. In reality, they're scared little boys trying to act like men. That makes them dangerous, but not on a major basis.
They are, quite simply, cowards, puffing themselves up and carrying firearms to try to allay their fears. It doesn't work. Then, if they are taken into custody for something, they cry bitter tears at being caught and facing some sort of punishment.

(4,940 posts)that bullies can be sung OUT of an area. Worked every time we've tried it.
They're cowards, or they wouldn't be carrying. And I'll bet not a single one has served. I did, and I didn't forget what I was taught.

(146,286 posts)Often in the rear, but occasionally combat service. All sorts of people have served in the military. However, there are also a lot of people in the moron militia who never did, as well.
It doesn't matter. If they're carrying lethal weapons to a public demonstration, they're cowards, whether they have military service in their backgrounds or not.
But, as you say, there are many who did serve, did learn, and still remember what they learned. They're still around. Some of them go to demonstrations, as well, but go unarmed, because no arms are needed to peacefully protest. Those people are not cowards. Not at all.

I know it's years and years ago, but the folks I served with? No way they'd have hit a KKK/Nazi celebration like Charlottesville. Most of our dads/cousins/uncles etc. fought in WWII.

(146,286 posts)that have been cancelled since Boston. The response in opposition to their racism and stupidity has been overwhelming. Mocking them is the best possible response. They will not use the arms they carry. They know that doing so would be their last acts.

(11,481 posts)in Charlottesville when they ran across a disciplined left wing militia in Redneck Revolt. And this was on Friday night when the cops let them run rampant. They backed away like the bullshit cowards and bullies they are when they came across armed opponents.
Refer to Cornell West and the other preacher's comments about RR, antifa, and anarchists on the events of that Friday night. The preachers knew who saved their asses from the out of control fascists and said so in no uncertain terms. And it wasn't the cops.

(7,107 posts)These guys want a confrontation, but they are terrified of their pictures getting around, being outed to friends, families, neighbors, employers, etc.
Let them carry guns. Just bring cameras in response.
