Selective Service

I feel quite strongly that if the U.S. gets into a military conflict with North Korea, the Selective Service will be activated. And this military draft will be very different than what happened in the 1960's. I was involved in trying to stop the new selective service act back during the 95th Congress. We succeeded in changing our local Congressman to a no vote, but failed to stop it from passing in general.

I truly hope I am wrong, but with two wars on-going and with only 10 regular divisions and 10 national guard divisions, there will not be enough boots on the ground - not to mention the initial U.S. casualties once the conflict begins. As Rachel Maddow used to say, "Talk me down."

The ROK has over 600,000 active duty personnel and its own military equipment, and those really need to be included in the accounting.

It's also likely that most of the fighting would be wrapped up and ROK defeated or the fighting would reach a stalemate within a very short time.

Given the northern border, what the PRNK so fears would happen is pretty much ruled out: Defeat and occupation. It knows it's in the position of a punk bully who is facing a bigger opponent but has his big brother there defending him. Take on the PRNK in anything more than a skirmish at the border and you'd deal with the PRC and RF as its backstop, even if they have to hold their collective noses.
