"Black women who look like me don't have relationships like that"

Last edited Sun Jul 15, 2012, 08:14 PM - Edit history (1)

I do not have any idea whether Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll was caught in a ‘compromising position’ with a female staffer. (An aide says she was wrongfully fired after walking in on Carroll and a staffer.) I do know she's a bible-thumping RW nut...

Florida's Lieutenant Governor Denies Any Affair With Her Female Staffer

Carroll, a Republican, is a former state legislator and became the first female elected as lieutenant governor when joining Gov. Rick Scott on his ticket in 2010. She is also the first black politician elected to any statewide office.

She was famously critical of the media in a fiery sermon of a speech before the Faith and Freedom Coalition in September, when she called for a "righteous government."

“Today, unfortunately, many in the media would like nothing better to ridicule Christians," she said according to an Associated Press video of the speech. "They promote the 'Da Vinci Code,' they place doubt in the public’s mind that Christ was not risen and they condemn the Passion of the Christ."

Carroll did not talk about LGBT rights but did say, "these are very sad times when we allow the minority to poison the minds of the majority. This is exactly what dictators and socialist rulers did. When it comes to our Christianity, there is no gray area. It is either you believe or you don’t believe. And if you believe, you believe with all of your heart, all of your soul and all of your might."

Anyway... I was struck by her odd comments today (seen on CNN) while opening Mitt Romney's FL campaign headquarters, defending herself against the charge of engaging in teh gay. First she noted that she has been married for 29 years while her accuser is unmarried, so you can draw your own conclusions from that... nudge, nudge.

She then said the whole idea was absurd because (I think this is a correct quote from what I heard), "Black women who look like me don't have relationships like that."

I got the impression that she was saying that black women are particularly heterosexual, and that she looks good enough to get a man, thank you very much.

Another weird day in Florida.

I'm having trouble following your OP.

What was she referring to when she said, ""Black women who look like me don't have relationships like that." Relationships like what??

Her theory seems to be that all lesbians are white women, or ugly black women. Reading further into her comment, she seems to think that lesbianism is something that arises from being unable to attract a man.

The title of your linked to article solved my confusion immediately. 'Florida's Lieutenant Governor Denies Any Affair With Her Female Staffer'

Reading further into her comment, she seems to think that lesbianism is something that arises from being unable to attract a man.

She's a nice looking woman, no doubt. Too bad she's not as bright as she is pretty. It is truly amazing the crap that comes out of people's mouths when they are trying to save their ass.

There were several black lesbian characters on that show who were gorgeous. Ok, they were actresses pretending to be lesbians, but still.

She may well just be that ignorant (and perpetuating hurtful and offensive ideas relating to eurocentric beauty ideals and lighter skinned black women) but it's also the kind of thing RW hypocrites say to try to deflect attention from their web of deception.
