(1,374 posts)This show so fucking good! It infuriates me that our media can't be half as good as this. If only the truth was as important as ratings and money.

(31,464 posts)The relationship stuff was starting to get too soap-opera-y. Of course, turned out there was a real reason behind it. But then it really redeemed itself with the ending. Powerful stuff.
And it was so nice to hear Fox, Rush, Beck, drudge and Bachmann all called LIARS for a change, not just dismissed as "entertainers."

(1,374 posts)but I understand why they need it for a wider audience. I'd rather see non-stop news stuff for a full episode but those parts do have a lot of impact, especially when calling out the lying liars for what they are. Seeing real news events in a fictional tv show is a brilliant concept.

(13,832 posts)Only Ten episodes. Boo! I LOVE HBO but wish a season on HBO would give us at least 15 episodes. Oh, and I HATE having to wait a whole year before we can see any new episodes. I have the same problem with BOARDWALK EMPIRE and even shows on PBS like DOWNTON ABBEY.
Still, the wait is well worth it. This show gets better and better. The cast is perfect. As much as I love Jane Fonda, I really hate her character on this show. Oh, and don;t even get me started with her son.

(111,056 posts)I wish it were real but it's not. But the segments of truth about important issues, tonight it was guns, make it very watchable.

(4,252 posts)It was funny and also very serious...Very good writing. I love how it shows actual news that happens and the real RWingers in videos and print. My conservative boy friend is learning a few things too.
Episode 4 already - 6 more to go....I too wish it had more episodes.

(5,062 posts)Newsroom ends right before BOARDWALK EMPIRE starts,so I al already getting use to the SUnday night time slot since I really don't watch many other TV shows.
How are Republicans reacting to the show? I heard that one Senator I think got angry because he was mentioned in last weeks episode but in general, are they really angry or are they even commenting on it? I recommended the show to my right wing Tea Party brother. He never misses a chance to start ranting and foaming at the mouth on politics and he never said a word. So either A)he knows all about the show, B) He knows about the show but is biting his tongue and won't talk about it to me or C) he is clueless and has never heard of the show.

(144,945 posts)The fact that he was upset with this show is no big deal. The truth is an absolute defense

(1,374 posts)just after The Newsroom premiered. They were trashing Jeff Daniels (even though he is just an actor on the show) for the amazing speech that opened the series that has since gone viral. Get this, they called the speech "un-American." Yes, really. If they had actually seen the entire speech and paid attention then they would know that it was actually very pro-American and hopeful in conclusion. Daniels' character even said in the episode (when responding to the same type of BS criticism) something to the effect of "did they even hear the last part of the speech?" To top it off they had a pic of Daniels from 'Dumb and Dumber' which really shows just how hateful and childish they are. In Faux News bizarro world anything with reverence to the truth is evil.
