Keep digging that hole for Rmoney. I'm lovin' it. Bwaaaaaaah hahahahaha
Notice that both Joe Scum and Mica are reminding us of his links to Rmoney this morning.

(268,931 posts)It's way too late for Rove to help Rmoney.
What's more Gillespie's 'retroactively' shit yesterday made it much worse. If he retired retroactively then he was there after 1999.

(31,464 posts)We heard about this last night, how Romney's campaign was going on a counter-offensive against the me Obama ad by accusing Obama of pay offs and cronyism. BOOM! Now we know why BOTH Romney advisors are on Morning Joe. The perfect kick-off.

(268,931 posts)But what information could the earlier tax returns contain that would be so damaging if it were brought out into the open? Obviously, we are entering the realm of speculation, but Romney has invited it. Here are four possibilities:
1. Extremely high levels of income. According to the tax filings and estimates he released earlier this year, Romney earned about $21.7 million in 2010 and $20.9 million in 2010most of it from capital gains on investments related to Bain Capital. This is a lot of money, but Romney may well have earned considerably more in earlier years. His ten-year severance agreement with Bain Capital ended in 2009. The terms of it havent been revealed, but quite probably it allowed Romney to keep pocketing a substantial portion of the firms profits. And the years before 2008 were massively successful ones for Bain and other private-equity firms.
Rmoney lied about his income????

(63,903 posts)That whole Senor, Madden, Brian interplay, plus Joe's rotten mood and poor loser demeanor, made for a truly depressing performance for the Romney defenders. The spinning was getting too strenuous...

(31,706 posts)Senor looked the fool he is as he keeps screaming the talking point de jour "Obama lost jobs" (a lie, but that never stops Senor...Rover taught him well). Thank goodness they got Harold Ford out of there...and Madden and Senor look desperate to talk about anything than the taxes.
Even Joke Line...err Joe Klein isn't putting up with their talking points today. Until Willard releases his taxes the drip drip drip will go on...

(111,079 posts)Senor asks, in regards to the tax returns?
Until Romney releases his tax returns. I thought I saw Senor physically deflate??

(31,706 posts)Yesterday Stephanie Cutler ate Madden's lunch on ABC and this morning he was stammering with Mika and Klein. As Malaise noted above he almost made things worse. Note he admitted the less than 14% number and for the first time someone mentioned that there's a good chance Willard paid ZERO taxes for some (many) years. Madden threw the $8 mil in taxes and then tried to inflate them with "charitable donation" to get to the 14%...wonder if anyone caught that...
Atman
(31,464 posts)...because the other guy was able to do a quick calculation that, given the numbers Madden just provided, Romney's tax rate actually worked out to 8%, not 14%. Madden tried briefly to push back, but was met with a shrug and "Well, it's just in the numbers."
Okay, I admit, it went better than I thought it would. This did not help Romney at all.

4. A very, very low tax rate. Romneys filings indicate that his effective federal income-tax rate in 2010 was 13.9 per cent, and his estimated rate for 2011 is 15.4 per cent. Those figures reflect the fifteen-per-cent tax rate on capital gains and dividend income. But it is perfectly possible that in earlier years he paid even lower rates. Since his 2010 and 2011 returns were prepared during an election campaign, it seems likely that his accountants took a conservative approach to deductions and other aspects of his finances. In prior years, they may well have been more aggressive. And maybe at some point Romney suffered some investment losses that enabled him to reduce his tax burden in subsequent years. Obviously, we dont know. But there may have been a year in which Romneys federal tax rate was in the single figures, and possibly even close to zero.
This seems pretty unlikely. But, hey, as Matthew Dowd noted, theres obviously something there, because if there was nothing there, he would say, Have at it.
