If Romney is successful in November without releasing tax returns...

or any other financial record, that would, to me at least, be the death knell of our open political process.

From this election on, we would hear from candidates on both sides that it is none of anyone's business what goes on in my private life and so we, the citizens, won't be afforded a look into the financial nature of the candidates.

This is a watershed moment, folks. There is nothing more revealing than where a person invests and what deductions they feel comfortable with.

For all we know, Romney may have pushed the envelope a couple of times over the years and it would show up on his tax returns. This would show what kind of man he is.

Some people are comfortable taking the letter of the law right to the point that the action is teetering on the fulcrum of right or wrong.

This is a big deal If he gets away with it, well...

But don't forget, if you are a working stiff, well, the people from Romney's class whole heartedly support trust but verify when it comes to the rest of us.

a heads-up that there was a problem when McCain's people reviewed his returns for VP consideration. He should have had people working on damage control all this time--instead, it sounds like he merely cleaned up his tax act just in time to run for 2012 and thought he could get away with it. I don't think he will--I don't think we are that far gone yet as a country.

He didn't release them then and won the election. I think he thought it would work on a national level too. We have to make sure it doesn't.

And I must confess I'm a little worried. It seems to me that there were more than a few issues that Bush/Cheney just arrogantly refused to address or answer to which should have caused people to question their fitness for the office. Much more substantial than "Rev. Wright" bullshit or the birth certificate bigotry. Yet they prevailed.

What troubles me the most is the absolute hatred which is fueling and funding much of the Republican party. It seems that they want to win at any and all cost. Even if it means winning with someone who they do not respect or trust.

I've come across far too many 'friends' who supported Bush with their $, votes and time, who now claim that "he did lots of things that they didn't like or agree with" patriot act/Iraq/stimulus as if he somehow was an rogue agent.

I hope people wake up-

The spotlight's on him now, and he's stuck. I think he's hiding something potentially big...

Time will tell...

7. What if everybody just refused to file taxes?

They take taxes out on pay checks, isn't that enough? If romney makes it, I may never file taxes again. I mean if it works for him...Oh wait, I'm at the lower end of the wage spectrum, I can never get away with something like that.

of deaths, and of being negligent enough to allow 9/11 to happen. Getting away with creatively using tax loopholes, lying about his residence, or whatever Romney is hiding, is not quite of the same order of magnitude.
