The Obama Campaign and the Democratic National Committee are continuing to take the fight HARD to a feckless Romney Campaign.
First, Chicago:
And then the DNC:
Quick and Dirty analysis:
The Obama ad will run in Pennsylvania where Mitt Romney happens to be campaigning today. Now, I'm probably alone in this, but I also feel like the issue of President Obama's burn rate is silly. President Obama is absolutely right to unload his entire fucking budget on Romney right now. Don't worry about that "people not paying attention" crap. That's the stupid strategy the Romney campaign thinks is working. What President Obama is doing is shaping the contours of the election and keeping the Romney campaign from ever getting a toehold anywhere.
These ads are not aimed at Romney voters. They are aimed mainly at the political establishment, but in the case of the Obama Campaign, politically interested folks who voted for Obama last time. Think of it as sort of an immunity vaccine. Remember, all President Obama has to do to win is get all the people who voted for him last time to vote for him again. It is Romney who has to peel those Obama voters away, but can't seem to get a toehold anywhere because Obama is hammering his fingers.

(22,911 posts)They all have limited targeted releases from what I can tell. Free media is magnifying their impact enormously. They get played on cable news, they get reported on news summaries on broadcast TV, they get discussed in newspapers, and they get emailed from friend to friend like a prairie wild fire. The Obama team has learned the old Republican play book well. The swiftboat campaign against Kerry was done on the cheap - free media paid the freight.
What I love is that Democrats are timing and throwing their punches now as well as Republicans ever have, but without stooping to their level. The issues are all legitimate. Bain speaks to Romney's economic vision for America and how he sees it prospering. SEC filings are legal documents that are required to be filed legally and made available to the public for very sound reasons. Every Presidential candidate for decades has released multiple years of tax returns before Mitt Romney. His own father made the compelling argument for why that is important.
Romney has nothing to complain about, he has done this to himself, which only makes his whining sound worse.

(28,979 posts)Only 22% of Americans trust the financial system of our country. But for most it's a faceless, nameless entity hiding behind a glass and steel structure with executive restrooms most of us don't have the key to. Suddenly we get to see Mitt personify the greedy capitalist looking down at us from his penthouse office. He is Simon LeGree. Mr. Burns. Old man Potter. The Sheriff of Nottingham. Scrooge McDuck.
He's the banker in the story of Jesse James paying a poor old widow woman's mortgage with stolen bank money. When the banker comes to collect, she is able to pay him the money owed and save her home. Jesse James robs the banker after he leaves with the money.
He fits in to our mythos of what the Mr. Moneybags would act like.

(2,124 posts)It seems that the typical response to the Oligarchy's scolding of the Democrats criticizing a rich man about his tax-dodging would result in an immediate reversal by the Democratic Party. But they ain't running and hiding this time. And it's working. I really hope this is a lesson to them.

(3,055 posts)When did the Democrats learn how to play hardball? I love this!!
All that's ever been necessary was to simply point out what the right wing was doing, and it sounds like the dems have finally figured it out. Repubs have always considered telling the truth "negative advertising", and Mitt and minions sound like whining little children. They're not getting their own way, they're not used to it, and they sure as hell don't like it. I'm waiting for him to stamp his feet and threaten to hold his breath.

(2,124 posts)I love it how people in the media want Obama to apologize. When a Republican has an effective attack against a Democrat, I don't think there are many calls from the media for them to apologize. But when that's reversed, I guess they just find it so ... rude! *gasp*

(8,962 posts)Romney's evasiveness is giving his opposition an unparalleled opportunity to fill in the multitude of knowledge gaps that persist with the electorate. His undisclosed tax and financial records must be pretty damning for him to be stonewalling at this point.
