Speaking of NASCAR,

are any current NASCAR drivers military veterans?

Given what the various NASCAR organization figures have said about the kneeling controversy, how many drivers and NASCAR celebrities served in the US military?

Simply curious.

Brad Keselowski has his Checkered Flag Foundation that supports paralyzed & wounded veterans and first responders both on and off race weekends

Going back to the past, team owner Bud Moore was a decorated Normandy & Battle of the Bulge veteran

NASCAR's very first champion, Red Byron, had very severe leg injuries due to anti aircraft fire in a B24 and raced with a stirrup attaching his foot to the pedal

Longtime legendary car owner and crew chief Smokey Yunick served as a B17 pilot in WWII

I do recall Richard Petty and other top drivers going to Vietnam a few times for USO trips when that war was going on

Those are just a few that come to mind

talking about drivers and support personnel who served in Vietnam. I have to think that few top of the line racers served. The one driver listed in the article capped out at Busch series.

I would think that most drivers start driving at a very young age. And if they are good enough they might see little opportunity in the armed services.
