CNN Political Producer Rachel Streitfeld
Irwin, Pennsylvania (CNN) - Mitt Romney repeatedly seemed to question whether President Barack Obama believed in the American dream in an energetic campaign speech Tuesday, calling his rival's approach to leadership "foreign" and accusing him of trying to change "the nature of America."

SAN ANTONIO, Texas US President Barack Obama jetted into the Republican bastion of Texas on Tuesday to raise funds and burnish his nationwide appeal as opponents called his American identity into question.
¬snip¬
In the latest swipe, former New Hampshire governor John Sununu sneered that he wished the Obama "would learn how to be an American" -- a comment that called previous attacks on the black president's identity and background.
But Romney did not distance himself from Sununu.
Indeed, in a speech in Irwin, Pennsylvania he appeared to double down on the attack, branding Obama's approach to the US economy "extraordinarily foreign."

Romney surrogate Sununu Channels Rush
Once again whatever Rush wants, Rush gets. On his show yesterday, conservative talk show titan Rush Limbaugh angrily said Camp Romney needs to go after Obama on the college-age drug use Obama admitted to in a passage in his biography. So today Romneys high profile surrogate John Sununu yew guessed it! raised the drug issue and also told reporters Obama needs to learn how to be an American.
Sununu on Fox:
He has no idea how the American system functions, Sununu said on Fox News Tuesday. And we shouldnt be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent
another set of years in Indonesia.
And to reporters:
In a brutal campaign conference call Tuesday organized by Mitt Romneys campaign, several of the candidates surrogates went after President Obama with fiery attacks accusing him of socialism, and being un-American.
I wish this president would learn how to be an American, said former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said toward the beginning of the call. Asked later to explain his comment, Sununu said he was referring to Obamas economic philosophy, and apologized for not being clearer.

A balanced playing field WOULD be foreign to Romney AND President Obama IS attempting to change the nature of America into the land of opportunity that we claim it to be.

(2,627 posts)Millionaire Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he was seeking better tax policies for people in the middle class like himself.
I think its a real problem when you have half of Americans almost half of Americans that are not paying income tax, the candidate told a group of supporters at a town hall event in Florida. My own view with regards to tax policy is that we ought to provide help to the people that have been hurt most by the Obama economy, and thats the middle class.

Earlier at the same event, he had promised not to pander or be phony.
In June, Romney told another group of unemployed Floridians that he was also unemployed.

We must make sure this phoney middle class weasel stays unemployed.
