ABC NEWS: The Bain Ad Romney Should Fear Most
by The Troubadour for Writing by David Harris Gershon
One of the most viral presidential ads to date, with over a million hits on Youtube, has been unleashed in a host of battleground states. And according to ABC News (and even Republican strategists), it may be the one Romney's campaign should fear most.
It is truly devastating. Watch:
Here's ABC News' Matt Negrin:
The one-minute spot, made by the super PAC supporting President Obama, Priorities USA Action, already has more than 1 million hits on YouTube, more than 10 times any other super PAC ad. More significant, a person at a Republican group that has tested Democratic attacks on Romney told ABC News the ad is potentially the most devastating yet.
[...]
The ad stars a former plant worker in Indiana who tells the story: One day he was told to build a small stage and, shortly after, Romneys Bain colleagues herded the workers in front of the stage to tell them they were fired. Romney, the worker says, made $100 million by shutting down the plant.
With Romney being hammered by a host of well-crafted Bain ads, it speaks volumes that Republican strategists are concerned about this one. And they have good reason to be, for not only does it play upon the intellectual point -- that Romney benefited financially from outsourcing jobs -- it plays simultaneously upon deep emotional chords.
And the combination of the two, told via a true and heart-wrenching narrative, is precisely what is needed to brand an idea upon the voters' psyche.
Particularly given this fact: the part of our brain which dominates decision-making is also the part of our brain which is devoid of language, yet houses our emotions.
Decisions are often made where our emotions reside. Which is why this ad -- true and brutal -- is a killer.

(53,986 posts)Naah, couldn't be. Romney wouldn't have gone there in person to fire someone as unimportant as an American worker and taxpayer. What was I thinking?

(776 posts)Slick willard has wrecked so many lives that 1 new version of this every day would
be inexpensive & easy
The people he screwed would not charge for their stories & the same sound track
would eventually make people uneasy when hearing mitts name, aside from the fact u may lose
your job or pension or both.
This one did not even touch on looted pensions and that is even worse than losing a job.

(904 posts)...I think it's called "When Romney Came To Town" or something like that, it's on youtube. It details several cases where R-Money came, saw, and conquered - and points out that every state in the union has been affected by job losses as a result of the activities of Bain Capital.
I think what we're seeing now is just the tip of the iceberg - Obama and his surrogates have obviously done their homework, and now, apparently have a boatload of opposition research at the ready for what R-Money can hurl in their direction. It must be working, considering how much squealing the Rombot has been doing over the last few days and demanding apologies (which Obama is not providing him - YAY!).

(2,601 posts)Was it some kind of "overlord" symbolism?
Were they cowards who were afraid of being beaten up if they were on the same level of the people they were laying off?
What makes this so fucking heartbreaking is that by shrowding in mystery the reason for the stage, I bet those folk walked in with a sense of anticipation and excitement, thinking they were in for something fun. It just seems unspeakably cruel.
Build me a stage so I can tell you you're fucked in style.
I just cannot even begin to grasp this.

(28,627 posts)Basically the MSM are giving Romney a free ride and they are not reporting much. We have to rely on the internet to hear the real truth!

(1,278 posts)If enough people saw this ad and listened to it, why would anyone vote for Mitt Romney? This ad could be as decisive as the hands ad in Helms v. Gantt in NC back in the day. I lived here then and that race was close until that ad was shown.
America has to face the undeniable fact that there could be more people that will vote against Obama for racial and political reasons than vote for Romney. I will do what I can with my limited resources to make sure this does not come to pass.

(11,830 posts)that's a *very* good ad. Love the sentence: Decisions are often made where our emotions reside.
