If you're really going to let blood as penitence for a "wrong on the internet" comment, best to high-tail it to your local blood bank.
We've donated here, as some of the blood locally that's being shared with other cities to backfill what is they're sending to Las Vegas, and everyone's running short.

I've made many an incorrect or knee-jerk comments over years at DU(since 2001), and before that, years on usenet. I commiserate.

Newsweek has retracted its story that reviewed the public records of Marilou Danley, the girlfriend of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock.

The initial report was based on many public records, but included an error that came to light after publication when a family member came forward.

Danley remains a "person of interest" in the shooting investigation of the slaughter of 59 people Sunday night in Las Vegas.

17. Pre- and post- citizenship taxpayer ID numbers

The "two social security number" thing is not all that unusual for a person who initially obtained a right to work prior to becoming a citizen.

If her first marriage was primarily a citizenship deal, then the marriage situation seems like ordinary shenanigans.

It's not clear what documentation the reporter used.

I could see someone saying I have two "social security numbers" - my personal SSN and my corporate TIN. But in this situation, either she ran a small business at some point, or she had a resident alien TIN.

What surprises me sometimes when presented with "verification questions" for things like online SS services or the annual credit report, is that equifax seems to believe I have lived in more places than I have actually lived. This sounds like they pulled her credit report among other things.

I flunk those ID verification tests regularly.

29. How about Philippines Oklahoma City Bombing?

Also some relation there, including a strange German who met the OKBOMB guys in the Philippines. A white German who seems likely not to be Muslim-related.

https://20committee.com/2014/11/17/lingering-okbomb-questions/

Since that investigation remains highly classified, I will not divulge its contents, though I will make two general comments.

First, the visits by McVeigh and Nichols to the southern Philippines remain mysterious, and perhaps will in perpetuity. Their connections to Ramzi Yousef are weak but visible, while the hand of a Middle East intelligence service, one known for its support to international terrorism, was detectable in outline, if not in detail.

Second, Strassmeir — who seems to be the key to much of the remaining mystery surrounding OKBOMB — appeared to be an intelligence source, and possible agent provocateur, for as many as three different intelligence services, all of which are known to watch neo-Nazi activities in the United States with interest.

The investigation will have to remain there, unsatisfactorily, until somebody decides to resume it. The twentieth anniversary of the Oklahoma City atrocity will soon be upon us. It would be good if a serious re-look at OKBOMB’s many unanswered questions were established for the event.

You think there is something mysterious about a couple of white male losers going to the Philippines?

The way a fine young drunk guy on leave in Thailand said to my wife and I one fine evening in Phuket: "Next time I'm going to the Philippines. It's just like here, but cheaper!"

It's where social misfits go to get laid.

36. And one can search "mail order brides"

To pretty quickly understand that sending money back to their family is often part of the deal.

It's not unusual for someone whose initial entry was on a work visa, but who then became a citizen after marrying in the US to have two taxpayer ID numbers.

It is also not unusual for marriages premised on immigration status to be unimportant to persons in them.

The POINT of terrorism is not to conceal one's motives for doing it.

She has voluntarily returned to the US to do, what? Go on the lam again?

Cmon.

If you come in on a work visa, or if you obtain permanent resident status, you get a taxpayer identification number that provides the function of an SSN. If you become a citizen later, you can get an SSN.

This sounds more like her own shenanigans on the path to citizenship through marriage, than anything else.

Don't jump to conclusions yet.

Even if a foreign source was somehow related, they would almost certainly have tried to set up a false trail of evidence to point elsewhere. Give the FBI and NSA some time to work out what really happend.

34. Depends...

Depends on who paddock really was. If a real agent of another foreign Intel service, he could work hard and maybe escape NSA recordings.

Remember during the OK bomb investigation the FBI interviewed 18,000 people. That takes time. And there McVeigh was bragging he did it.

35. Interesing article from LA Times

[link:http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-las-vegas-shooting-live-updates-at-his-local-starbucks-vegas-shooter-1507060195-htmlstory.html|

Worth a read. On my phone, so can't quote. He got mad if she used his casino card at Starbucks.

82. Good info

Their order was always the same. He’d get a venti mocha cappuccino and she a medium caramel macchiato.

Workers remembered Paddock as a tall man with a big beer belly and heavy bags under his eyes.

The abuse would come when she asked to use his casino card to make the purchase, Mendoza said. The card enables gamblers to use credits earned on electronic gambling machines to pay for souvenirs or food in the casino.

“He would glare down at her and say — with a mean attitude — ‘You don’t need my casino card for this. I’m paying for your drink, just like I’m paying for you.’ Then she would softly say, ‘OK’ and step back behind him. He was so rude to her in front of us.”

Not a terrorist.

It will be interesting to see what the Feds find.

This incident seems especially weird.

64. The absurd lengths that people go to explain away the behavior of this man....

It reminds me of all the ways that people ignored and rationalized Trump’s behavior during the campaign.

The efforts to blame this man’s actions on a girlfriend - an exercise almost totally devoid of facts, driven by innuendo and speculation - would be surprising if we didn’t have the 2016 election as a prior example.

66. I think, looking at Clark County, Newsweek is confused.

I see a 1990 marriage between a Geary Dean Danley and a Marilou Bustos.

Then the 1996 marriage between Jose B. Romam Bustos and "Marilou C Natividad".

I think Marilou C Natividad-Bustos is a completely separate person.

71. And I was right! Retracted!

http://www.newsweek.com/marilou-danley-gunmans-girlfriend-social-security-number-677033

Unbelievably sloppy reporting. A random commenter on their site spotted the inaccuracy. And commenter was correct.

89. Which Marilou should sue, though?

The one accused of bigamy and identity fraud when she's already got enough on her plate?

Or the poor woman in California who learned getting married in Vegas would get on the news, in relation to a mass shooting?
