Romney campaign to sink to a new low; chiding Barack Obama for past drug use. It's their funeral.

Besides highlighting just how out-of-touch Romney and his surrogates are, harping on the admitted drug use in the President's past is a clear invitation for a scorched-earth campaign in which the mostly unknown and mostly un-vetted republican candidate will almost certainly bear the largest share of unwanted and damaging scrutiny.

It's a curious strategy which suggests something of a panic in the Romney campaign to change the subject from the inevitable revelations of wrongdoing and possible criminality surrounding the inevitable release of the republican's tax returns, to a smear campaign of innuendo and insults; based on Barack Obama's widely read and known admissions.

Never mind that the last president (who's out and about in the public eye this week) was doing very little with his life before he was first elected to public office -- as late as in his forties -- other than getting high and carousing. Do voters really hold some special animosity toward Democrats who've used drugs in their pasts; more than they do of republicans with the same experiences?

One thing for sure . . . there are plenty things more relevant to folks' lives out there than what Barack Obama or GWB were smoking before they assumed the role of responsible adults (did Bush even ever . . .?) I doubt the voters will take the time to do more with the reports; other than take note of what a sleazy and desperate tactic this is for the Romney campaign.

The only reason to do this now is to desperately shore up the crumbling conservative base. Independents don't give a good goddamn whether somebody used drugs in the past (and many don't mind if somebody smokes a joint from time to time). Only radical conservatives get worked up about stuff like that (and on a very selective basis). Romney's camp, in desperation, is essentially calling Obama a "crackhead" (which is to say, in conservative parlance, a "n*gger&quot . That's where they're at now. That's how bad they're being hurt by the Bain stuff. They are going full out race-baiting. The Obama team will continue to roll eyes at them and hit them hard on Romney's business record.

because people will look at the nonsense coming out of his mouth and his so-called "surrogates" and then look at the President's record, and they will clearly see the complete disconnect and abject failure of the rethug party.

Sometimes I wonder if this was a longterm strategy of the establishment rethugs - to basically let the crazies self-destruct themselves and then they come back in and clean up the mess of their party, and start all over fresh.

They need to triple their white, male, lower-to-middle class voting bloc numbers, and this ain't the path to that.

Odd. Desperate.

were brought up in 2008 and they made little or no difference. Trying to use those issues against a sitting President four years later when all of that stuff is even LESS relevant than they were then seems insane. Are indies *really* going to care about stuff they've (probably) already heard about 4 years ago? Seems like kind of a dumb idea to me but then again I'm not part of the "brain trust" running the Romney campaign right now. Romney can probably make the people whom already hate Obama hate him even more I suppose but they still only get one vote per person and they comprise only about +/-30% of the public and people whom already support President Obama aren't going to hear all of this (old) information and switch their votes. Indies will probably be wondering why any of those nasty attacks matter when none of this stuff happened while Obama has been President and we have REAL problems to deal with that the GOP is refusing to allow anybody to deal with so that they can regain more political power.

Ben Smith left Politico to takeover as Editor at Buzzfeed. His right wing bias is on display at Buzzfeed both in his writing and his staff's writing. The Buzzfeed political writers are primarily are right wing hacks led by Ben Smith and his frat boy staff. Take a look at writer Zeke Miller's articles. Of course, they masquerade as non-partisan. Read a few of their articles and you will find the truth.

Buzzfeed used to be a fun place to go to read fun, silly, interesting memes and unique things poplular on the internet at any given time. Since Ben Smith took over, Buzzfeed has lost so much of its luster. I am baffled why the powers that be at Buzzfeed would hire an Editor (Ben Smith) whose political philosopy differs so greatly with the majority of Buzzfeed's users and readers.
